Senior Manager, Technical Accounting

About the role:

As a Senior Manager, Technical Accounting, you will be the subject matter expert on U.S. GAAP and SEC reporting requirements. You will evaluate, document, and advise on complex accounting matters across the organization and lead technical accounting research. You will report to the Assistant Corporate Controller, Technical Accounting & External Reporting and work at our Cranberry Township, PA site. Hybrid Work Schedule.

Key Responsibilities:
Technical Accounting Leadership

• Be the subject matter expert on U.S. GAAP, SEC regulations, and new accounting standards.

• Research complex accounting issues and determine appropriate accounting treatment for business transactions.

• Develop company accounting policies and ensure consistent application across the organization.

• Monitor developments from the FASB, SEC, PCAOB, and other regulatory bodies and assess potential impacts to the company.

• Lead implementation efforts for new accounting standards and disclosure requirements.

• Partner with Financial Reporting on SEC comments, including ownership of accounting analysis and supporting of proposed responses.

Complex Transaction Accounting

• Evaluate accounting possible effects of mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures, strategic investments, and other corporate development activities.

• Lead purchase accounting analyses and business combination accounting under ASC 805.

• Assess accounting treatment for restructurings, asset impairments, debt and equity transactions, stock-based compensation arrangements, revenue recognition matters, and leasing transactions.

• Analyze and conclude on complex consolidation matters, including variable interest entities (VIEs), voting interest entities, and changes in ownership structures.

• Support accounting and reporting requirements associated with non-routine transactions.

Goodwill & Long-Lived Asset Impairment

• Lead annual and interim goodwill impairment assessments under ASC 350.

• Evaluate triggering events and support impairment analyses for goodwill and long-lived assets.

• Coordinate with valuation specialists and finance teams to assess assumptions and valuation methodologies.

• Prepare documentation supporting impairment conclusions and related disclosures.

Accounting Research & Position Papers

• Perform detailed accounting research using the FASB Accounting Standards Codification, SEC guidance, and other literature.

• Prepare comprehensive technical accounting memoranda and white papers documenting accounting analyses, conclusions, and supporting rationale.

• Maintain a repository of technical accounting conclusions and policy interpretations.

Stakeholder Engagement & Audit Coordination

• Present technical accounting analyses and recommendations to senior finance leadership and executive management.

• Communicate complex accounting concepts to non-accounting partners across the organization.

• Be the primary technical accounting contact for external auditors.

• Partner with our teams on transaction structuring and accounting possible effects.

Process Improvement & Leadership

• Improve technical accounting processes, documentation, and governance.

• Lead a team of accounting and financial reporting team members on technical accounting matters.

• Support special projects as requested by the Controller, Chief Accounting Officer, or other senior finance leaders.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.

• CPA certification required.

• 12+ years of progressive accounting experience with technical accounting responsibility.

• Expertise in U.S. GAAP and experience researching and applying accounting guidance to complex business transactions

• Experience preparing technical accounting memoranda, white papers, and position papers.

• Experience working directly with external auditors on technical accounting matters.

We are committed to transparency and equity in all of our people practices. The base salary range for this position, which is dependent upon experience, qualifications and skills, is estimated to be $126,000 to $157,500 per year.
