Workers Compensation Paralegal

Experienced Workers' Compensation ParalegalThe Cleveland office of Ogletree Deakins seeks an experienced workers' compensation paralegal to join its workplace safety and health practice. Three to five years of experience in handling claims from the administrative phase through litigation and trial is required. Candidates should have experience with all aspects of the workers' compensation process including requesting medical records, preparing IME background letters, filing continuances and appeals through ICON, and related Industrial Commission activities. Candidates should also have experience with preparing court pleadings, handling discovery requests, and providing trial support. Experience with OSHA is a plus.Essential functions include managing a caseload of Ohio workers' compensation defense files from the administrative phase through litigation and trial, requesting, organizing, and reviewing medical records and related claim documentation, preparing IME background letters and coordinating independent medical examinations, filing continuances, appeals, and related submissions through ICON, and managing other Industrial Commission of Ohio filing requirements. Other duties include tracking and calendaring hearing dates, appeal deadlines, and other statutory timeframes before the BWC and Industrial Commission, preparing court pleadings, discovery requests and responses, and related litigation documents, providing trial support, including preparation of exhibits and coordination of witnesses and evidence, communicating with clients, medical providers, and Industrial Commission staff regarding claim status and case developments, assisting attorneys with workplace safety and health (OSHA) matters as needed, and maintaining organized case files using firm case management systems.Requirements include three to five years of experience as a paralegal handling Ohio workers' compensation claims, from the administrative phase through litigation and trial, demonstrated experience with ICON filings and Industrial Commission of Ohio procedures, experience preparing court pleadings and handling discovery requests, trial support experience, strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and case files, excellent written and verbal communication skills, proficiency with Microsoft Office and case management software, and OSHA/workplace safety experience is a plus.Ogletree Deakins offers a robust suite of benefits for our staff including paid time off, paid sick leave, a 401(k) matching program, profit sharing, paid holidays, paid parental leave, affordable health and life insurance including dental & vision coverage, health savings account/flexible spending accounts to help offset the cost of dependent care and/or health care expenses, tuition reimbursement, and an employee assistance program.Ogletree Deakins is one of the largest labor and employment law firms representing management in all types of employment-related legal matters.
