Visual Information Specialist

VETERANS HEALTH ADMINISTRATION

Summary

Employee will be assigned to the Public Affairs Office, VA Medical Center, Tomah, WI, serving as a Visual Information Specialist producing designs, productions, and displays of a variety of visual materials for publications, exhibits, and presentations, while maintaining the Intranet and Internet website pages for the facility and on-site facility digital boards.

Duties include, but may not be limited to the following:

  • Performs complex visual design/display duties on an independent basis that are both internal and external to the Medical Center including working directly with Public Affairs. This includes, but not limited to professionally designed poster sessions, handbooks, manuals, recruiting brochures, posters, medical illustrations, patient education materials, print and digital flyers and other graphic media as required to meet the mission and vision of the facility.
  • Utilizes graphic design programs, such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign, Microsoft Publisher, Purchased Graphic service, etc.
  • Collaborates with leadership in the design of printed materials, exhibits and presentations that covers a broad scope of subject matters.
  • Designs, exhibits, and displays visual content, usually dealing with specialized medical health care subjects which will appeal to the audience for which it is intended.
  • Translates ideas and suggestions from program officials into detailed plans, and makes suggestions based on costs, availability of materials and information objectives.
  • Provides photography, videography, and production services across the organization with a wide breadth of scope and within many different physical environments.
  • Provides photography/videography services for Public Affairs by documenting award presentations, special ceremonies, events, and programs; and provides photography/videography services for employees, Veterans, and community partners.
  • Documents surgeries, autopsies and other medical procedures photographically for research and education purposes.
  • Coordinates with subject matter experts to interpret imagery requests and translate them into clear, realistic, and technically sound imagery.
  • Supports virtual, live, and recorded conferences, trainings, presentations, teleconferences, and meetings.
  • Provides assistance in setting up and operating audiovisual equipment.
  • Ensures administrative management of and the quality of all media productions released by Medical Media.
  • Uses established record management procedures to name, catalog and properly file information and digital imagery.
  • Ensures media products adhere to the copyright and intellectual property regulations.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm.

Qualifications

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must possess one (1) year of specialized experience that equipped them with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position, and that is typically in or related to the work of this position. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-9 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience includes: Experience in the actual type of work for which application is made. Unpaid experience is creditable, provided the work done was of a quality level and demonstrated the ability required for the position. This includes planning the preparation and use of photographs, illustrations, drawings, and other art work, charts, diagrams, dioramas, maps, slides, overlays, and other kinds of visual material for use in communicating information through visual means. Additional specialized experience includes: utilizing photo, video and illustration editing, layout and design, and web-based software such as Adobe Creative Cloud Suite, Microsoft Office, Adobe Photoshop, etc.; ensuring materials are properly displayed within an organization's Internet, Intranet, and SharePoint sites; and collaborating with leadership, public affairs, and other stakeholders regarding visual content.

SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE ( Transcript Required ): Successful completion of a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related with a major study in commercial art, fine arts, art history, industrial design, architecture, drafting, interior design, photography, visual communication, or other fields related to the position.

COMBINING EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE ( Transcript Required ): Combination of successfully completed graduate education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The work is performed primarily while seated at a computer workstation and requires no special physical demands, although some physical exertion may occasionally be required such as standing for extended periods, bending, some lifting of heavy materials, cutting, trimming, or collating. The work requires good eyesight, manual dexterity, and color discrimination.

Receiving Service Credit for Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee.
