Nurse Practitioner: Outpatient Pediatrics & Pediatric Cardiology

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) provides high-quality, patient-centered care in a part-time role (2 days/week) across both outpatient general pediatrics and outpatient pediatric cardiology . This position supports the evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing management of infants, children, and adolescents, working collaboratively with pediatricians, pediatric cardiologists, nursing staff, and ancillary team members.

The ideal candidate is a flexible, team-oriented clinician with strong pediatric experience and an interest in pediatric cardiology.

Schedule:

• Part-time position
• Schedule may include split clinical time between outpatient pediatrics and outpatient pediatric cardiology clinics
• No inpatient or overnight call required other than phone triage (unless otherwise specified)

Key Responsibilities:

Outpatient Pediatrics

• Perform comprehensive and focused health assessments for pediatric patients
• Provide possible preventive care, including well-child visits, immunizations, and developmental screenings
• Diagnose and manage acute and chronic pediatric conditions
• Educate patients and families on health promotion, disease prevention, and treatment plans
• Prescribe medications and therapies in accordance with state regulations and clinical guidelines
• Document care accurately in the electronic medical record (EMR)

Outpatient Pediatric Cardiology

• Conduct cardiology-focused evaluations under the supervision/collaboration of pediatric cardiologists
• Manage follow-up visits for patients with congenital and acquired heart conditions
• Review diagnostic testing (e.g., ECGs, echocardiograms, Holter monitors) as appropriate to scope and training
• Provide patient and family education regarding cardiac diagnoses, medications, and care plans
• Coordinate care with multidisciplinary teams, including nursing, imaging, and referring providers

General Responsibilities

• Collaborate effectively with physicians, nurses, medical assistants, and administrative staff
• Maintain compliance with institutional policies, quality standards, and regulatory requirements
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and continuing education
• Demonstrate culturally competent, compassionate, and family-centered care

Required Qualifications:

• Master's or Doctoral degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program
• Current Nurse Practitioner licensure in the practicing state
• National board certification (PNP-AC/PC or FNP with pediatric experience, as applicable)
• Current BLS certification (PALS preferred or required within a specified timeframe)
• Eligibility for DEA registration and prescriptive authority

Preferred Qualifications:

• Strong interest in pediatric cardiology and being a part of pediatric management team
• Familiarity with pediatric EMR (EPIC) systems
• Strong communication, organizational, and clinical decision-making skills

Work Environment:
