Position Summary Futures Recovery Healthcare is seeking a compassionate and motivated Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) to join our multidisciplinary treatment team. Under the supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist, the PTA will assist in implementing individualized treatment plans for patients recovering from substance use disorders, co-occurring mental health conditions, chronic pain, mobility limitations, and other physical impairments. The ideal candidate is patient-focused, dependable, and committed to supporting individuals through both physical rehabilitation and overall recovery. Duties and Responsibilities Assist Physical Therapists in implementing individualized treatment plans and delivering therapeutic exercises, mobility training, balance activities, and functional rehabilitation programs. Provide treatments, tests, patient education, and appropriate interventions as delegated by a licensed Physical Therapist. Monitor, document, and report patient progress, responses, and performance accurately and timely. Participate in multidisciplinary care planning alongside nursing, clinical, and behavioral health teams. Educate patients on wellness, injury prevention, posture, safe movement, and therapeutic techniques. Support patients with compassion, professionalism, and adherence to safety and confidentiality standards. Maintain treatment areas and equipment while ensuring compliance with Florida practice guidelines and facility policies. Observe and report any changes in patient condition or behavior to the supervising Physical Therapist. Help patients attain or maintain independence, comfort, mobility, and dignity throughout their care journey. Foster a supportive and encouraging environment for individuals in recovery. Qualifications Current licensure or certification as a Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) in the State of Florida. Graduation from an APTA-approved two-year PTA program or equivalent qualifying experience with successful completion of the U.S. Public Health Service proficiency examination (if qualified prior to December 31, 1977). Minimum of one year of experience working under the supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist preferred. Experience in rehabilitation, behavioral health, substance abuse treatment, or skilled nursing is a plus. Strong communication skills, active listening ability, and excellent patient assessment skills. Calm, reassuring, and compassionate demeanor with the ability to work effectively with diverse patient populations. Commitment to delivering care with compassion, excellence, professionalism, and reliability. CPR certification preferred or required upon hire. Working Environment This position operates within a residential and outpatient behavioral healthcare and substance abuse treatment setting. The Physical Therapy Assistant works closely with patients recovering from addiction, mental health disorders, chronic pain, and physical limitations. The environment is collaborative, fast-paced, and patient-focused, requiring professionalism, empathy, emotional resilience, and the ability to maintain appropriate professional boundaries. Daily interaction with healthcare providers, therapists, counselors, nurses, and support staff is expected. Physical Demands Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday. Frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, and assisting patients with movement and therapeutic exercises. Ability to lift, transfer, and support patients and equipment up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation. Manual dexterity and physical stamina required to demonstrate exercises and assist with rehabilitation activities. Ability to respond appropriately in emergency situations and maintain a safe treatment environment. Visual and auditory ability sufficient to monitor patient conditions, communicate effectively, and complete documentation accurately.
