Principal Platform Software Engineer (Java, Python)

Salary: $104,500 - 234,600 per year Requirements:

• Bachelors, masters, or doctoral degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Six or more years of software engineering experience, including designing, building, and operating large-scale distributed systems.
• Strong programming expertise in Java, Python, or both.
• Experience building cloud-scale, multi-tenant products or services supporting high-throughput, concurrent processing.
• Strong understanding of distributed computing, large-scale data processing, system reliability, performance optimization, and the service development and operations lifecycle.
• Ability to design systems for scalability, elasticity, availability, durability, security, and cost efficiency.
• Familiarity with modern AI-assisted software development and practical understanding of large language models, AI agents, tool use, and interoperability protocols such as MCP and A2A.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, collaboration, and written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to provide technical leadership and deliver results in a fast-moving environment with evolving requirements.
• Willingness and ability to participate in the teams on-call rotation and respond to production incidents.
• Ability to work on-site in Nashville, Tennessee, Monday through Friday; candidates outside the area must be willing to relocate.
• Preferred: Experience with observability, logging, search, analytics, or query-processing platforms; scaling machine-learning, statistical, or analytical algorithms across large datasets; or technologies such as Kafka, Lucene, Solr, Spark, Parquet, Kubernetes, or Terraform.
• Preferred: Experience designing query languages, compilers, query planners, distributed execution engines, indexing systems, or information-retrieval platforms, and improving production-system performance, scalability, reliability, resiliency, or recovery.

• Lead architecture, design, and development of OCI Log Analytics query-language capabilities, including parsing, planning, optimization, and distributed execution.
• Build scalable systems that run advanced analytics and machine-learning algorithms across terabytes of data while meeting latency, availability, and cost-efficiency goals.
• Develop AI agents and agentic workflows that translate user intent into queries, investigate operational issues, and surface actionable insights.
• Architect secure, resilient, multi-tenant cloud services with fault tolerance, replication, throttling, load shedding, and automated recovery.
• Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks across query execution, indexing, storage, retrieval, and analytics pipelines.
• Define performance, scalability, correctness, availability, and reliability requirements.
• Develop load, stress, fault-injection, recovery, and performance tests to validate system behavior at scale.
• Establish service-level objectives, telemetry, dashboards, and alerts.
• Lead investigation and root-cause analysis of production issues and drive corrective and preventive improvements.
• Join the teams on-call rotation, respond to production incidents, restore service health, and help maintain OCI service reliability and availability.
• Collaborate with product managers, architects, engineers, site reliability engineers, security teams, and other OCI Observability organizations.
• Provide technical leadership, mentor engineers, promote engineering best practices, and contribute to hiring and talent development.
