Principal Platform Software Engineer - Robotics

Salary: $142,000 - 194,000 per year Requirements:

• We require a BS or MS in Computer Science, Engineering, Robotics, Life Sciences, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• We look for 8+ years of product management experience with highly technical products, platforms, cloud services, automation systems, or enterprise software.
• We need experience defining product vision, roadmaps, requirements, and success measures for complex customer-facing products.
• We seek experience working closely with technically demanding customers and converting detailed workflows into scalable product capabilities.
• We value strong technical judgment across cloud platforms, distributed systems, workflow orchestration, data platforms, APIs, or automation systems.
• Experience with robotics, lab automation, industrial automation, scientific workflows, AI-enabled systems, or hardware-software products is strongly preferred.
• You should demonstrate sound trade-off decisions across scope, customer value, safety, reliability, cost, and time to market.
• We expect experience defining and evaluating pilot programs, including measurable business and operational outcomes.
• Strong written, analytical, customer engagement, and executive communication skills are required.
• Minimum job qualifications include 11 years of software development experience, or a relevant degree plus 3 to 7 years of software development experience depending on the level.
• We require 6 years of experience with programming and/or scripting languages such as SQL, C/C++, or JavaScript.
• We require 4 years of experience with databases.
• We also look for demonstrated ability in data analysis, agile methodologies, automation, compliance, quality assurance, scripting, software test plans, user experience development, code review, embedded systems, and software estimation.

• We define the vision, product strategy, roadmap, and investment priorities for Robotics Automation.
• We work directly with strategic customers, scientists, lab operators, and automation partners to understand workflows, constraints, and unmet needs.
• We identify and prioritize the first pilot use cases and define customer value, desired outcomes, acceptance criteria, and success measures.
• We translate customer and business needs into clear product requirements, user journeys, policies, and engineering priorities.
• We partner with the Robotics Platform Engineer to assess technical options, make scope and sequencing decisions, and balance customer value, safety, reliability, cost, and delivery time.
• We define the product model for managing organizations, shared resources, access rules, workload priorities, and operational policies.
• We establish success measures for adoption, workflow completion, operator intervention, reliability, resource use, cost, and customer value.
• We define requirements for administrator, monitoring, and troubleshooting experiences in partnership with Shared Experience & Authoring.
• We build the case for future investment in Robotics Automation based on pilot results, customer feedback, market opportunity, and technical feasibility.
• We drive the product lifecycle from discovery and prototype through pilot, launch, and continuous improvement.
• We communicate strategy, trade-offs, progress, risks, and recommendations to executives and cross-functional stakeholders.
• We influence across Product, Engineering, Applied Science, Security, Operations, Finance, and customer teams without formal authority.
