Adult Protective Investigator – 60073250 Agency: Children and Families Position No.: 60073250 Salary: $37,000.08 annually / $1,423.08 bi-weekly How you will make an impact This professional position investigates allegations of abuse, neglect, self‑neglect, and financial exploitation against vulnerable adults. You will serve clients residing in the community and alternative care facilities, working quickly to protect their safety and independence. What you will do Investigate allegations of abuse, neglect, and financial exploitation, preventing recurrence. Conduct safety assessments and mental capacity evaluations, meeting clients within 24 hours of receiving a report. Coordinate emergency services, medical evaluations, temporary placement, and court intervention when necessary. Interview, observe, and analyze information from victims, witnesses, and records. Collaborate with state agencies, law enforcement, and prosecutors to pursue justice. Connect victims with agency and community resources to improve quality of life. Build relationships with organizational partners including medical personnel and advocacy groups. Maintain detailed investigative reports and documentation. Qualifications A high school diploma or GED and four years of law‑offense experience or active military service; OR An associate degree or 60+ college credit hours and two years of professional work experience (examples below) or two years of law‑offense experience or active military service; OR A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. Examples of professional work experience may include: Guardian Ad Litem or similar child advocate role Family Support Worker Group Home Worker Teacher's Assistant/Aide Therapeutic Assistant Family Intervention Specialist Home Health Aide Nurse (LPN or RN) or similar profession Nursing Facility Assistant EMT Other welfare, education, or medical professional jobs in high‑pressure environments. Additional qualifications: Valid driver license and operational private vehicle, including proof of registration and insurance coverage within 30 days of hire. Availability for a 6‑8‑week mandatory training course. Ability to work nights, weekends, holidays, emergency situations, and hazardous conditions. Background Screening Requirement Candidates must successfully complete a State and National criminal history check, including fingerprinting for FDLE and FBI, as a condition of employment. Selective Service Male candidates born on or after Oct. 1, 1962 must register consecutively with Selective Service before their 26th birthday or provide an exemption letter. Verification will occur prior to hire. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Emergency and tactical communication skills, basic computer and typing proficiency. Interviewing, observation, and research abilities. Understanding of family dynamics, laws, and regulations. Report writing, evidence synthesis, and organization. Strong communication, listening, and interpersonal relations. Physical agility for varied terrains, stair climbing, evacuation, and driving.
