Mainframe Consultant

We are seeking an experienced Mainframe Technical Lead with strong expertise in legacy modernization and enterprise mainframe applications. The ideal candidate will possess deep hands‑on experience with PL/I, IMS DB, DB2, COBOL, JCL, CICS, VSAM, Control‑M, and z/OS environments, along with a strong background in production support, application development, and technical leadership. Experience within the Property & Casualty Insurance domain is highly preferred. This candidate must be able to work onsite in Plano, TX or San Antonio, TX Lead end-to-end delivery of mainframe application development, enhancements, and support initiatives. Design, develop, maintain, and enhance applications using PL/I, IMS DB, COBOL, DB2, JCL, CICS, VSAM, and related technologies. Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance to development teams. Collaborate with business stakeholders and cross-functional teams to understand requirements and define technical solutions. Conduct code reviews and ensure adherence to development standards, best practices, and quality guidelines. Analyze and troubleshoot production issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement long-term fixes. Support application performance tuning, optimization, and stability improvements. Coordinate activities across onshore and offshore teams to ensure timely delivery. Participate in Agile/SAFe ceremonies including sprint planning, daily stand‑ups, retrospectives, and release planning. Support system integration testing, user acceptance testing, deployments, and post‑release activities. Contribute to modernization initiatives, including API integration and z/OS Connect implementations. Prepare and maintain technical documentation, system design documents, and operational procedures. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field. 5+ years of experience in Mainframe application development and support. Proven experience in debugging, troubleshooting, and production support. Strong understanding of software development lifecycle and application maintenance processes. Experience working in Agile and/or SAFe environments. Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, communication, and leadership skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a fast‑paced environment. Desired Qualifications Experience with z/OS Connect. Exposure to API integration and mainframe modernization initiatives. Strong understanding of Property Insurance and Auto Insurance business processes. Experience leading distributed onshore/offshore development teams. Knowledge of cloud integration strategies and hybrid architectures. Prior experience working in large‑scale enterprise insurance environments. Experience with DevOps and automated deployment processes for mainframe applications.
