Registered Nurse (RN)

We are seeking dedicated and skilled Registered Nurses to join our team in Montgomery, AL. Our facility is equipped with 492 beds, serving as a Level I Trauma Center with a Level III NICU and designated as a Primary Stroke Center.

Position Details

The Registered Nurse will be assigned to a home unit upon the first day of orientation. Patient ratios typically range from 1:4 to 1:6, with an emphasis on maintaining high-quality care. RNs are expected to assist with patient care tasks such as turning patients, bathing, and supporting activities of daily living (ADLs) in addition to clinical responsibilities.

Units and Patient Population

• 6 North Trauma Surgical
  • Beds: 23
  • Patient Types: General Surgery and Vascular surgeries
  • Skills Required: Wound care, chest tubes, NGT, IV skills, medication administration and documentation
• 5 South Neuroscience
  • Beds: 33
  • Patient Types: CVA, TBI, Seizures, Spinal Fusion, Craniotomy
  • Skills Required: IV starts, blood draws from central lines, trach care
• 5 North MedSurg/Oncology
  • Beds: 39 (2 Charge RNs with no patient assignment)
  • Patient Types: High acuity and fast paced MedSurg patients, palliative care, ETOH withdrawal
  • Skills Required: Chemo administration (highly preferred if certified), wound care, IV starts
• 3 South Orthopedic
  • Beds: 20
  • Patient Types: Orthopedic and spine cases including joint replacements and laminectomies
  • Skills Required: PCA pumps, wound care management
• 3 North MS/Ortho/Urology
  • Beds: 23
  • Patient Types: Urology, ENT, orthopedic, and MedSurg
  • Skills Required: Trach care, IV starts, wound care

Qualifications

• Minimum of 18 months of MedSurg and/or ICU experience
• Experience with EPIC or Cerner platforms (Cerner experience is required for ICU-only candidates)
• BLS and NIHSS certifications required
• Telemetry experience is preferred; RNs must be able to interpret telemetry strips

Support on the Unit

• Ratio: 1 CNA for every 10-12 patients
• Receptionist/HUC available
• Phlebotomy staff present
• IV/VAT Team available for support
• Telemetry monitoring managed by dedicated technicians

Orientation and Scheduling

New travelers will undergo 24 hours of classroom orientation followed by 24 hours on the unit. Scheduling includes weekend rotations with the expectation of working one major and one minor holiday per season, as per policy.
