Registered Nurse (RN) - Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU)

Job Summary

Join our dedicated team as an Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU) Registered Nurse at MVHS-Wynn in Utica, New York. This 64-bed unit, which includes 15 designated neurological beds, provides comprehensive care for adult patients (18 years and older) requiring close monitoring and intervention for a wide range of acute conditions.

The IMCU patient population presents with diverse and complex diagnoses, including neurological disorders, cardiac conditions, trauma, respiratory illnesses (such as COPD), DKA, sepsis, myocardial infarction (MI), cardiovascular step-down, and post-operative care. This role demands a highly skilled and adaptable nurse capable of managing critical situations and utilizing specialized equipment.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide expert nursing care to adult patients with complex medical conditions in an Intermediate Care Unit setting.
• Conduct comprehensive assessments, develop individualized care plans, and implement interventions for patients with neurological, cardiac, trauma, respiratory, DKA, sepsis, MI, CV stepdown, and post-operative diagnoses.
• Monitor and manage patients requiring specialized equipment, including temporary pacemakers, chest tubes, arterial lines, BiPAP, and Neptune Vapo.
• Care for patients on chronic ventilators, collaborating closely with Respiratory Therapy for optimal patient outcomes.
• Accurately document all patient care activities, observations, and interventions using the EPIC Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.
• Float to other units as required by facility needs to support patient care across the hospital.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of recent experience as a Registered Nurse in an Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU) or Progressive Care Unit (PCU) setting.

Preferred Qualifications

• Local candidates (residing within 75 miles of the facility) are encouraged to apply.

• Clinical Skills: Advanced cardiac monitoring, ventilator management (chronic vents), neurological assessments, post-operative care, DKA management, sepsis protocols, trauma care, critical thinking, rapid response.
