Laundry Operator

The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department is seeking two dependable and detail-oriented Laundry Operators to join our Detention Center operations team. This position is essential to maintaining a sanitary and efficient environment by ensuring the proper laundering of clothing, bedding, and other textiles used by inmates and staff. Make a vital contribution to the health and hygiene of the facility. • Hours: 1:00 PM – Midnight on a rotating schedule (includes evenings and weekends). • Work environment includes exposure to heat, chemicals, noise, odors, and physical labor in a secured detention facility. Due to the nature of this position within a secure detention facility, applicants must have a clean criminal record and will be required to successfully pass a pre-employment drug screening and polygraph examination as part of the hiring process. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Collect, launder, and distribute clothing, bedding, towels, and related items used by inmates and staff. Maintain cleanliness and sanitation in the laundry room and throughout the facility. Follow proper procedures for handling and disposing of hazardous materials and chemicals. Conduct inspections for contraband and report safety, sanitation, or maintenance issues. Adhere to Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Bloodborne Pathogens protocols. Maintain accurate inventory and ensure proper handling of laundry equipment and supplies. Job Specifications and Qualifications Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and perform physical duties including standing, walking, bending, and reaching. Must be detail-oriented, dependable, and capable of working independently or as part of a team. No previous experience required; on-the-job training will be provided.
