N/A JOB QUALIFICATIONS Education: Georgia DOE Driver Training Curriculum and annual training program on safe driving practices as prescribed by the Georgia Department of Education. Certification or Licensure: Must possess a valid Driver's License and meet the minimum age of twenty-one (21) to qualify as a school vehicle driver. Must pass a physical examination by a licensed doctor prior to the date of employment in accordance with the approved examination (DE form 0514) prescribed by the State Board of Education. Skills: Ability to safely transport k-12 students to and from school-related activities. Ability to complete pre- and post- trip vehicle inspections. Ability to exhibit sensitivity, compassion and confidentiality working with families and students in transition (homeless.) Work Experience: Minimum of two years driving experience with an acceptable record (does not have to be a school bus). PRIMARY DUTY Operate five-to-eight passenger school vehicle. Transport students in transition (Homeless) to and from school routes in regular, special education, vocational or extracurricular trips as authorized by Department of Student Services and the local school system. Employees are responsible for following various assigned routes and schedules in the safe and efficient operation of a five-to-eight passenger vehicle.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Operate the school vehicle in a safe and efficient manner in accordance with the laws of the State of Georgia and the policies of the State and local boards of education.
2. Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspection of the school vehicle and its special equipment.
3. Maintain orderly conduct of student passengers. Report unsafe acts or conditions.
4. Conduct emergency evacuation drills are required by the local school system.
5. Communicate effectively and professionally.
6. Complete legible, accurate and required reports in the prescribed manner and on a timely basis.
7. Provide maximum safety for passengers while on the vehicle and during loading and unloading.
8. May transport students on field trips, after-school activities and outings as approved by the Homeless Liaison and Transportation Supervisor.
9. May be assigned to transport wheelchair-bound students. Driver will assist such students in boarding the vehicle, work, life equipment and secure the wheelchair for transport as per current safety procedures.
10. Clean and service the school vehicle which includes sweeping, washing, fueling, checking oil and coolant levels, etc., to the extent prescribed by the local school system. Report needed repairs.
11. Perform other duties as directed by the Homeless Liaison and local school system.
12. Maintain routes and schedules as planned by the Homeless Liaison and Transportation Department personnel.
13. Report any hazards along the existing route to the appropriate school official. 14. Operates assigned school vehicle in compliance with state and county laws, School Board policy and Department of Education regula6ion.
15. Loads and discharges students only at appropriate stops.
16. Works with Homeless Liaison and school administrators in dealing with discipline problems on the school bus.
17. Assists students who become ill: Cleans up as required.
18. Reports all accidents immediately to the local police and Transportation Department
19. Attend local safety meetings as held by the State Department or local Transportation Department.
20. The employee shall carry out such other and further duties, whether specifically listed above or not, as are assigned or required by such employee's supervisor, other appropriate school personnel, law, board policy, administrative regulation, department handbook, as are reasonably necessary to the efficient operation of the school system and its mission. The work environment characteristics are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to walk, stand, and sit. Travel is required for this position. Must be physically able to enter and leave a vehicle frequently and quickly, and must be able to traverse the aisles of a vehicle as needed to adequately perform required duties. Stooping, bending and lifting is required. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Work will often be completed in split shifts. Work schedule may require after-school/evening hours, often on an unscheduled basis. Should be able to work activity trips outside the regularly scheduled work day, if needed. Lifting heavy objects and frequent climbing, meets all qualifications as outline by State laws (i.e. physical exam, drug screening, criminal background checks etc....) All drivers of Eight-Passenger Vehicles must be placed in a drug and alcohol testing program. No addiction to intoxicating liquor or narcotic drugs. Successfully complete a pre-employment drug test. Will be subject to random drug tests. OTHER DETAILS CREATION DATE 11/2022 REVISION DATE This description may be changed at any time.
