Description
Student Workers are high school or college students employed part-time on an at-will basis for a limited period to gain experience. Under FLSA standards, workers are non-exempt for wage and hour statutes; however, they are exempt from the classified service and the Merit System in accordance with Education Code Section 45256. In this status, Student Workers cannot obtain regular or permanent employment. Student Workers must provide proof of education status by way of a work permit or copy of transcripts at time of hire.
All levels of Student Worker are closely monitored and are not to be alone with District students under any circumstance.

Tasks vary by level and assignment. Level II workers may have more responsibilities and access to various District platforms (depending on department/assignment).

It is the worker's and supervisor's responsibility to ensure that work performed falls within the prescribed functions only, and that all protocols and procedures are followed.

Student Workers must complete mandated training, follow acceptable use policies, and strictly maintain student confidentiality.

Examples of Duties
Basic Function: Under close supervision, engage in directed activities and complete tasks as assigned by their department supervisor. Based on assignment, additional training or waivers may be required.
Business positions:

• Assist with accounts payable or receivable functions
• Enter data accurately into computer system(s)and/or spreadsheets.
• Participate in reviewing inventories; verify receipts against orders.
• Assist with other routine tasks and activities, as needed.

This position is not eligible for benefits.
