Standard schedule: 40 hours per week with potential overtime. Weekend work required approximately 1–3 times per month. Weekend shifts are typically 2–4 hours and involve sampling and process modifications. Flexible start time between 7:30 AM and 8:30 AM (attendance at the team meeting before 8:30 AM is required). Level 3 (+2–3 Years): Advanced operational expertise and troubleshooting capabilities. Full proficiency in the role typically requires approximately six years of progressive development. Position Overview We are seeking an entry‑level Fermentation Technician to support operations within a pilot‑scale fermentation and chemical production laboratory. This role is ideal for recent graduates and candidates with up to five years of relevant experience who possess a strong scientific background and an interest in bioprocessing and laboratory operations. Approximately 80–90% of the role involves hands‑on laboratory work, with the remainder dedicated to documentation and operational support. This position supports laboratory and production operations and is not a Scientist‑level research role. Education Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a scientific discipline, preferably in Biology, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Microbiology, Organic Chemistry, Physics and related scientific disciplines Experience Recent graduates and candidates with up to five years of relevant experience are encouraged to apply. Prior laboratory experience is preferred. Preferred Qualifications Familiarity with sterile laboratory techniques and fermentation operations. Experience using hand tools and performing basic equipment maintenance. Strong organizational and documentation skills. Ability to work independently and manage priorities effectively. Self‑motivated with a proactive approach to problem‑solving. Key Responsibilities Support and oversee fermenter operations including sterilization, inoculation, cell growth and feeding, harvesting, cleaning, troubleshooting, and repair. Perform fermenter sampling and routine process monitoring. Apply sterile techniques for inoculating and sampling shake flasks. Operate autoclaves and safely handle acid/base mixing systems. Conduct off‑line sample analyses using laboratory instruments including viscometers, centrifuges, spectrophotometers, and pH meters. Maintain accurate laboratory records and documentation. Investigate deviations from expected results and contribute to technical reports. Manage laboratory supplies and inventory. Perform preventive maintenance on laboratory equipment. Troubleshoot equipment issues and conduct routine repairs. Replace valves and other components on bioreactors. Utilize basic hand tools to support equipment reliability and upkeep. Identify opportunities for process improvements and operational efficiencies. Participate in continuous improvement initiatives, including Six Sigma projects. Collaborate effectively with team members to support workload and project goals. Hands‑on laboratory environment with exposure to chemicals, plants, nuts, and latex. Appropriate personal protective equipment and safety procedures are required. Position requires standing, moving materials, and performing routine equipment maintenance. Computer Skills Proficiency with: Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint Interview Process First Interview: Virtual interview with first‑ and second‑level managers.
