Position Overview:

Our nursing staff operates in collaborative settings alongside robust interdisciplinary teams, emphasizing a patient-centered care approach within a diverse work environment. Under the guidance and general oversight of the Nurse Manager, registered nurses apply evidence-based practices in alignment with the State Nurse Practice Act, hospital policies, and directives from the medical staff. Utilizing their knowledge and skills, registered nurses employ the nursing process to create care plans that address the physical, emotional, spiritual, cultural, and educational needs of patients and their families.

Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education: Graduate from an accredited nursing program.
Experience: At least one (1) year of experience or successful completion of the Nurse Residency Program at The William W. Backus Hospital.
License and Certification: Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse license in good standing in the State of Connecticut. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required upon hire. Must be able to obtain and maintain department-specific certifications.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS
Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Master of Science in Nursing (MSN).
Experience: Two (2) or more years of experience in the relevant clinical area.
License and Certification: Certification in the clinical specialty area. CNOR certification preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Fundamental understanding of nursing principles and practices. Proficient in reading and comprehending both oral and written instructions. Effective communication skills are essential for conveying technical or complex information and instructions. Strong interpersonal abilities are necessary for interaction with departments, staff, physicians, managers, and patients. Capable of managing multiple priorities, demonstrating flexibility, and being a team player. Ability to thrive in a high-pressure environment. Commitment to exceptional customer service. Basic computer skills for data entry and retrieval.

PROBLEM SOLVING AND DECISION MAKING
Requires a high level of analytical ability to collect and interpret information from various sources. Must be able to respond appropriately to changes, challenges, problems, and emergency situations. Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times.
