Physician (Family Practice)

Overview The position is located in the Department of Primary Care at the Williamsburg Community Based Medical Home, Williamsburg, VA. Work involves performing specific medical tasks, such as conducting physical exams, follow-up appointments for health issues, fitness-for-duty evaluations, medical boards, flight physicals, and aeromedical summaries. The duties require board certification or eligibility for certification in Family Medicine. Work is performed under the general professional direction of the Chief, Department of Primary Care, with considerable independence in clinical decision making. Consultation in a specialty area is available on request. The patient care duties involve the full range of requirements established by applicable military regulations and the facility\'s leadership. Medical malpractice liability insurance is covered by the Federal Tort Claims Act (28 U.S.C. § 1346(b)) while acting within the scope of employment. There is no direct supervision, and the individual exercises independent judgment in selection and performance of the full range of diagnostic procedures for patients. The quality of professional and administrative work is evaluated using quality assurance principles and regulations as mandated by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organizations. Responsibilities As a Physician (Family Medicine), you will: Duties require you to be board certified or eligible in Family Medicine; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certified, and able to perform ACLS protocols unsupervised, with ability to communicate those skills to other health professionals and paraprofessionals. Take ownership and responsibility for care of your assigned panel of patients, providing first contact, continuous, comprehensive primary care for infants, children, youth, and/or adults according to current standards, the patient-centered medical home model, military policy, and applicable regulations. Provide care, advice, and referral coordination via telephone and secure messaging as appropriate; meet department productivity targets. Provide diagnostic, preventive, and therapeutic services to patients primarily in the Department of Primary Care; examine, diagnose, and prescribe treatments for illnesses and injuries. Perform military-specific medical tasks, including periodic physical exams, follow-up for issues identified during Post-Deployment Health Reassessment, temporary and permanent profiles, and fitness-for-duty evaluations; perform duties within the scope of practice for the Department of Primary Care. Possess or be willing to attain working knowledge of computer systems required for daily tasks. Provide direction/oversight to assigned medical staff on duty and coordinate care from outside civilian and non-civilian facilities. Understand the medical mission to support the Department of Primary Care; work with Performance Improvement to reduce patient complaints and enhance services; coordinate with Radiology, Pathology, Pharmacy, Nutritional Care, Rehabilitation Services, and Occupational Health; participate in hospital training courses as a participant and/or instructor. Qualifications In order to qualify, you must meet education and experience requirements described below. Experience includes paid and unpaid work, including volunteer service. Your resume must clearly describe relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, transcripts will be required. Basic requirements are described below, with additional qualification requirements listed. Basic Requirement for Physician (Family Practice): Degree: Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, or equivalent from a US or Canadian medical school, accredited by the relevant U.S. accrediting bodies. A foreign medical school degree must be equivalent to accredited US standards, demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates, or by ECFMG pathways, or successful completion of the US Medical Licensing Examination. L icensure : Applicants must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, DC, Puerto Rico, or a US territory. Graduate Training : At least one year of supervised clinical experience after medical school (internship or first year of residency) in an accredited program. Residency Training for GP-14 Position : Successful completion of the required accredited residency in Family Medicine and equivalent experience and training equal to at least 4 years; experience may not substitute for required residency training.
