Registered Nurse (RN)This unit features 56 beds and provides care for a diverse adult population with various diagnoses including congestive heart failure (CHF), acute renal failure (ARF), hepatitis, end-stage liver disease (ESLD), diabetes mellitus (DM), diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA), pneumonia, sepsis, gastrointestinal bleeding, syncope, chest pain, pulmonary embolism, respiratory failure, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), arrhythmias, seizure disorders, overdose, and delirium tremors.Patient RatiosPCU/Tele RN: 1:4 (Days & Nights)Med/Surg RN: 1:5 (Days & Nights)CNA: 1:8 (Days & Nights)Required CertificationsRN: BLS, ACLS required for PCU & TeleLPN: BLS required; ACLS preferredCNA: Certified CNA; BLS not requiredRequired EducationCompletion of a nursing education program approved by the board of nursing; Registered Nurse (RN) license from the South Dakota Board of Nursing.Skills RequiredCandidates should exhibit effective verbal and written communication, thorough physical assessment capabilities, strong clinical judgment, a professional bedside manner, and be strong team players with a positive attitude and adaptability.Role ResponsibilitiesCardiac and vasoactive drip titrationCardiac rhythm interpretationIV starts and blood product administrationManagement of CIWA, drains and tubes, indwelling and straight catheter insertion/managementInsulin drips for both DKA and non-DKA patientsContinuous bladder irrigation and chest tube maintenanceProviding high-quality patient care in a fast-paced environmentSupport on the UnitCNA support with a ratio of 1:8 for both Days & NightsCharge nurses available 24/724/7 phlebotomy for peripheral blood drawsResource nurse available as staffing allowsRespiratory Therapy available 24/7Hospitalist coverage in-house 24/7Centralized telemonitoring available 24/7Violent Incident Response team availableCharting System/EquipmentExperience with Epic is preferred. Other equipment includes Alaris and Omnicell.FloatingThe RN may float to adult inpatient units including Med/Surg, Ortho/Neuro/Surgical, Heart and Vascular Unit, and ICU (depending on experience). Floating will be conducted in rotation with other travelers.OrientationThe orientation includes 2 days of in-class/online education followed by (2) 12-hour shifts with a preceptor.SchedulingWeekend rotation: every other or 50% weekends per 4-week scheduleHoliday expectations: minimum of every other holiday during the contracted timeframeApproval of time off: up to 7 daysNo requests for time off during the Sturgis Bike Rally (first 3 weeks of August)Additional NotesCandidates may be expected to precept students.
