The Pharmacy Technician serves as a part of the healthcare team at UVA Health Northern VA Culpeper and collaborates with other team members, to provide optimal care. The Technician accepts responsibility, authority, and accountability for management and provision of care in accordance with the current policies and procedures. The Pharmacy Technician is able to demonstrates the ability to competently work in different general and specialized areas of pharmacy practice. The essential duties of a pharmacy technician at UVA Community Health are to:Demonstrate the ability to competently work in general and specialized areas of the pharmacy practiceParticipate in the training of new employeesFill, prepare, and deliver medications under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist/licensed independent practitioner.Consistently follows policy and proceduresEnsuring adequate supplies are available for continuous patient careTriages and escalate any questions or issues outside the pharmacy technician's scope of practice to the staff pharmacist or supervisor as neededUse appropriate systems for processing of patient informationEnsure quality is maintained according to departmental and legal requirementsAppropriately operate pharmacy equipment.Maintains considerable knowledge of medication names (both trade and generic) and their doses, routes of administration, Demonstrate patient interview skills and strong written and communication skills with other healthcare professionals.In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be required.Education: High School Diploma or GED required.Experience: Required - 18 months minimum of relevant experience, 1 year of sterile compounding experience, or 1 year of employment required. Refer to the Life Support Training Policy for additional details.Licensure: Commonwealth of Virginia Pharmacy Technician Registration is required. Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam (ExCPT) required.Additional Skills/Requirements Required: State Registration and/or evidence of renewal is required for both Pharmacists and Technicians fifteen days prior to expiration and Technicians are required to be either certified through Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB), National Healthcareer Association (NHA) or be actively enrolled in pharmacy school or be active in Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Equivalency Examination (FPGEE) or Foreign Pharmacy Equivalency Certification (FPGEC). Considerable knowledge and application of basic math skills, including ratio and proportion relationships; strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to follow verbal and written instructions. Basic technology skills. Other duties as outline in UVA Health Northern VA Culpeper and facility specific policies and procedures. Ability to drive/travel to multiple facilities/locations as needed. Ability to work as part of a high performing, change ready and resilient team.Additional Skills/Requirements Preferred: Considerable knowledge of medication names (both trade and generic) and their doses, routes of administration, and adverse effects; the ability to demonstrate patient interview skills and strong written and communication skills with other healthcare professionals.Competencies:Communication: Ensures timely and consistent communication.Teamwork: Works within a team to achieve patient and team goals.Physical Demand Code: Medium to Heavy Physical Demand: The job requires constant standing, frequently walking, and bending/stooping. For any weight over 35 lbs., use Safe Handling Equipment.The base compensation range for this role is $17.82 - $29.27 hourly.Please note that the pay rate does not include any applicable incentive compensation programs such as shift differentials, clinical ladders, and other incentives that may be available for those in eligible positions.
