Job Summary
The Adjunct Instructor, Biology is a part-time, non-benefited position responsible for delivering engaging course content including participation in course embedded undergraduate research activities. This position facilitates learning through lectures, labs, discussions, assignments and assessments aligned with the college's curriculum and academic standards. The Adjunct Instructor collaborates with department staff to ensure consistent course materials and that delivery meet the needs of the student population. The Adjunct instructor is also responsible for coordinating and overseeing laboratory experiences and supervising students in laboratory settings. Certain lab activities may require additional training for implementation.


Compensation: $900 per credit hour.

Priority Screening Date: Position is open until filled.

Starting Date: As soon as practical after the hiring process. Position filled on an as needed basis.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Knowledge

• Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups and the measurement of training effects.
• Knowledge of administrative and office procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, designing forms, and workplace terminology.
• Knowledge of media production, communication, and dissemination techniques and methods. This includes alternative way to inform and entertain via written, oral, and visual media.
• Biological Expertise: Strong foundation in cellular biology, genetics, molecular biology, evolution, and physiology.
• Lab Expertise: Skilled in practicing and leading others in laboratory/field experiences via inquiry based methods on topics such as: microscopy, molecular techniques, and biodiversity assessments for biological studies.
• Clinical or Field Experience: experience in medical, clinical, biological, zoological, or ecological work as a career
• Technology & Safety: Proficiency in data analysis, and lab/field safety protocols for handling specimens and biological materials.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS:

• While performing the essential duties of this position, an employee would frequently be required to move around the assigned work areas as well as within hallways, meeting rooms, and other parts of the campus facilities
• There may be multiple/daily instances of prolonged sitting, standing, and personal computer use, which would include keyboard and/or mouse usage as well as viewing a computer monitor
• An employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus
• The overall work environment requires the mental ability to shift focal point quickly due to interruptions; an employee must be able to mentally track multiple projects and tasking as well
• The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate; however, there may be instances of somewhat loud environments.

Education and Experience Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:

• Master's degree in a Biological Science in one of the following subject areas: Biology, Cell Biology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Genetics, Biochemistry, Zoology, Animal Science, Physiology, Anatomy, Kinesiology

-OR-

• Master's in one of the life, physical, or geosciences and at least 3 credits in cross-discipline graduate credits in other areas

-OR-

• Master's in science education and 18 graduate credits in a Biological Science

In lieu of the required degree, candidates with equivalent professional experience, industry certifications, or a combination of education and relevant work experience may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Three years of teaching/instructional experience in the field of study.
• One year of research experience or mentoring students in research activities.
