Health Information Technologists ensure that information maintains quality, accuracy, accessibility and security in both paper files and electronic systems. Using various classification systems to code patient information, Health Information Specialists use databases and registries to maintain patients’ medical and treatment histories. Graduates of BCCC’s Health Information Technology Program are eligible to apply for the national certifying Registered Health Information Technician examination administered by the American Health Information Management Association. BCCC’s Health Information Technology Program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Health Information Management Education. We do not offer a Bootcamp/Masterclass course that can be completed within a few weeks or months. Our programs are based on selective admission after completing the Pre-entry requirements. Through the College’s General Education Requirements, students acquire basic knowledge of the disciplines in the areas of arts and humanities, social and behavioral sciences, biological and physical sciences, mathematics, English composition, and computer literacy. The mission of the Health Information Technology Program at Baltimore City Community College is to provide the students with the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to excel in the field of Health Information Technology and to foster lifelong learning among active healthcare professionals. Carry health insurance as long as they are in the program or sign a medical waiver accepting. Be responsible for their own health and safety in the classrooms and clinical areas to which they are assigned. Show proof of current health status by physical exam less than a year old. Have up-to-date immunization/titres: a. The Purified Protein Derivative (PPD) must be done annually b. Rubella, Rubeola and Mumps titre and immunization, if necessary c. Varicella (chicken pox) titre and immunization, if necessary d. Hepatitis B screening, vaccine if necessary, or written waiver 5. Be aware that seasonal flu and other immunizations may be required by the assigned clinical healthcare facility. 6. Have a criminal background check and a drug screen per clinical agency regulations. Check with the Clinical Coordinator for more information. 7. Maintain a minimum of "C" in each required course to progress through the course and semester sequence. 8. Have a 2.5 GPA to apply to the program and must maintain a 2.0 throughout the duration of the program.
