Service Manager

We're an established, independently owned restaurant in Brooklyn seeking an experienced Service Manager to lead our front-of-house team.

We're looking for someone who genuinely loves restaurants, takes pride in great service, and knows how to bring out the best in a team.

This is a hands on leadership position for someone who enjoys being on the floor, developing staff, and running a great service. We're looking for someone with high standards, good instincts, and the confidence to take ownership of the guest experience.

Responsibilities

Service & Hospitality

• Lead front of house service Wednesday through Sunday and maintain service standards.

• Be actively involved on the floor, connecting with guests and supporting the team.

• Oversee service pacing, table maintenance, and dining room presentation.

• Handle guest concerns with confidence, care, and good judgment.

• Identify opportunities to improve service and take initiative in making those improvements.

• Ensure the dining room is organized, prepared, and ready for each service.

Team Leadership & Development

• Train, coach, and develop servers, hosts, bartenders, and support staff.

• Lead pre-shift meetings and regular service training.

• Build a knowledgeable, confident team that takes pride in its work.

• Establish clear expectations and hold staff accountable.

• Provide constructive feedback and address performance issues directly and professionally.

• Foster a positive, collaborative working environment where people feel supported and challenged to improve.

• Lead by example through professionalism, attention to detail, and strong service skills.

Wine & Beverage

• Develop a strong working knowledge of the restaurant's wine, beer, and beverage offerings.

• Participate in tastings and ongoing wine education.

• Help staff become comfortable discussing wines and making recommendations.

• Communicate new offerings and menu changes to the team.

• Encourage curiosity and continued learning across the FOH team.

Operations & Administration

• Prepare weekly front-of-house schedules and manage shift coverage.

• Maintain accurate wine inventory and oversee routine beverage and supply ordering.

• Coordinate deliveries and monitor stock levels.

• Assist with menu updates, proofreading, printing, and POS changes.

• Oversee opening and closing procedures.

• Communicate regularly with the Director of Operations regarding staffing, service, and operational needs.

Qualifications

• At least 3 years of full-service restaurant experience, including management or leadership responsibilities.

• Excellent service skills and a strong understanding of what makes a dining room run well.

• Experience training, motivating, and developing front-of-house staff.

• Wine knowledge or a genuine interest in learning. An interest in Italian wine is a plus.

• Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

• Ability to remain calm, professional, and effective during busy services.

• Familiarity with restaurant POS and scheduling systems.

• Reliable, proactive, and comfortable taking ownership of daily operations.
