Buyer

A Buyer at St. Jude is responsible for source selection and procurement functions directly associated with clinical, scientific and research products and services. Other duties include: Negotiates contractual arrangements between St. Jude and selected vendors committing hospital funds to ensure the acquisition of high quality goods and services at optimum cost. Ensures quality of goods, and competitive levels of delivery consistent with institution and departmental policies and performance standards. Job Responsibilities Submit all capital equipment requirements for price validation and ensure additional reviews as required by institutional policies have been conducted. Maintain complete knowledge of the institution's contract policy and access risk and potential liability for the institution's needs. Ensure sole source documentation, competitive bids, and contract applicability as appropriate before placing an order. Analyze markets to determine vendor sources, new product developments, and product availability and assist in selecting vendors and merchandise as required. Communicate order status and update to customers promptly. May guide early career team members on standard tasks within own area. Perform other duties as assigned to meet the goals and objectives of the department and institution. Maintain regular and predictable attendance. Minimum Education and/or Training High School Diploma/GED required. Bachelor's Degree with emphasis in business administration or economics preferred. Minimum Experience Bachelor's degree with no experience OR High school diploma/ GED with 4+ years of relevant experience. Lawson software experience preferred. Licensure, Registration and/or Certification Required by SJCRH Only (NL) Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM) credential or the Accredited Purchasing Practitioner (APP) credential awarded by the Institute for Supply Management is preferred Special Skills, Knowledge and Abilities Understands the task at hand, seeks out information, and draws conclusions from available data to deliver outcomes. Exhibits basic consultative skills in asking questions and understanding needs of stakeholder; adapts company policies to consider different stakeholder interests. Establishes rapport and trust with key stakeholders by listening, understanding, and calibrating expectations. Provides operational/ coordination support to stakeholders; assists in dealing with current and potential issues. This is an estimate offered in good faith and a specific salary offer takes into account factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the salary range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
