Rides the special education buses for Irving independent school district and ensures safe and orderly transportation of students with disabilities. Responsible for the safe and orderly transportation of students on assigned routes of the Irving Independent School District. Operates a mini-activity bus, suburban, or designated district non-CDL vehicle required for transporting students to and from school or designated locations./ppQualifications:/ppMinimum Education/Certification:/pulliHigh school diploma or GED from an accredited institution/li/ulpSpecial Knowledge/Skills:/pulliMust be 21 years of age/liliAbility to read, write and comprehend instructions/liliAbility to operate safety equipment and adaptive equipment/liliAbility to work well with students with special needs/liliAbility to carry heavy loads quickly and safely/liliMust have completed a 20-hour TEA Safety Course/liliValid Texas Drivers License/liliClass B CDL or able to obtain within 90-days of hire (start) date/liliAbility to pass the annual DOT physical examination and random drug test./liliTexas School bus driver certification or ability to obtain one/liliSatisfactory driving record/li/ulpMinimum Experience :/ppOne [1] year of experience in a related field preferred/ppMajor Responsibilities and Job Duties:/polliSafely and efficiently delivers students to and from schools by following assigned bus routes, adhering to established schedules, and obeying all traffic laws./liliMaintains safety precautions when students board and depart buses using hand-operated door mechanisms./liliMaintains discipline and reports student discipline problems to appropriate administrators./liliMaintains a current record of assigned routes and stops, including required seating charts for elementary and junior high students./liliPerforms prompt, quick vehicle evacuations of students in emergencies./liliKeeps the vehicles interior clean and always maintains an appropriate fuel level in the vehicle./liliInspects vehicles driven for students after each route and before returning to the Transportation facility./liliChecks vehicles driven for mechanical defects before and after each operation and immediately reports any abnormality or malfunction./liliReports involvement in an accident [regardless of severity], vehicle damage, and student injuries immediately; completes required reports./liliAdministers basic first aid when necessary./liliCompletes specialized training opportunities made available through the Transportation Department: i.e., CPR, first-aid, behind-the-wheel training, discipline management procedures, etc./liliMaintains positive rapport with students, administrators, teachers, staff, and parents./liliUnderstands and observes state laws about vehicle safety./liliAttends required staff development and monthly safety meetings as the Administration and Director require./liliAssumes responsibility for personal daily timecards./liliDemonstrates behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible./liliFollows all rules, regulations, and policies of the Irving Independent School District./liliPerforms other functions that may be assigned by the Administration and Director/li/olpSupervisory Responsibilities: None/ppWorking Conditions:/ppMental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors :/ppTools/Equipment Used: Operates activity bus, suburban, and designated non-CDL district vehicles, as well as all specialized equipment identified to accommodate students./ppPosture: Prolonged sitting and standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting/ppMotion: Frequent walking; repetitive movement of the steering wheel with frequent use of hands and wrists/ppLifting: Lifting and carrying up to 40 pounds., team lifting is not likely to exceed 150 lbs./ppEnvironment: Exposure to inclement weather, including heat, cold, rain, and snow; ability to walk 35 yards within 25 seconds; working positions include kneeling and climbing, with extended reaching in front of and above the body. Climb steps in and out of bus up to 16 times per route from a 20 elevation (3 daily routes); ability to safely exit the rear of the bus from 4 elevation/ppMental Demands: Effective communication skills (both verbal and written); maintain effective control over groups of students; responds appropriately in emergencies; maintains emotional control under stressful conditions/ppSafety: Contribute to the prevention of accidents and injuries by observing safety rules and District policy, practicing the principles and skills taught in safety training, wearing personal protective equipment as required, reporting injuries and incidences immediately to the supervisor, and being proactive in the ongoing efforts to improve and maintain workplace safety./ppThis is an in-person position.
