Industrial Electrician
Position OverviewExperienced Industrial Electrician to perform installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical and electro-mechanical equipment in a steel mill environment. The role focuses on ensuring safe, reliable operation of medium- and high-voltage systems, motors, drives, PLC control systems, and pneumatic/hydraulic equipment while adhering to all safety procedures including LOTO and NFPA 70E. Key Responsibilities
- Perform preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance on medium-voltage (MV) and high-voltage (HV) electrical systems, switchgear, transformers and distribution networks.
- Apply lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures and NFPA 70E electrical safety standards for all energized and de-energized work.
- Troubleshoot and repair AC and DC motors, variable frequency drives (VFDs), soft starters and associated motor control circuits.
- Diagnose, program, and maintain PLC control systems (Allen-Bradley, Siemens and similar), including I/O, communications and ladder logic troubleshooting.
- Service and repair pneumatic and hydraulic systems, including valves, cylinders, pumps and related controls.
- Perform motor alignments, bearing changes, brush replacements and other mechanical-electrical repairs as required.
- Respond to emergency breakdowns, perform root-cause analysis and implement corrective actions to minimize downtime.
- Conduct testing and commissioning of new electrical equipment and upgrades; follow proper isolation, testing and documentation procedures.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, electrical schematics, test results and report work activities in the CMMS.
- Collaborate with maintenance, operations, and safety teams to plan outages, shutdowns and major repairs while ensuring compliance with mill safety and environmental regulations.
Qualifications
- Journeyman electrician or equivalent trade certification; journeyman license preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of industrial electrical experience, with significant time in a steel mill or heavy manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated experience with medium-voltage and high-voltage systems, including installation, testing and safe switching procedures.
- Proven skills with PLCs (Allen-Bradley, Siemens or equivalent) and troubleshooting control systems.
- Strong experience with VFDs, soft starters, AC/DC motors and motor control centers (MCCs).
- LOTO certification and NFPA 70E training; OSHA 10 or 30 preferred.
- Hands-on experience with pneumatic and hydraulic troubleshooting and repair.
- Excellent electrical troubleshooting skills and ability to read electrical prints, P&IDs and schematics.
- Ability to work rotating shifts, extended hours or emergency callouts; able to lift and move heavy equipment and work at heights as needed.
- Strong communication skills, teamwork mindset and attention to safety and detail.
