Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Cardiovascular Intensive Care Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-hour Nights Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: 2 years License: Required Certifications: ACLS, BLS Must-Have: Experience in CVICU with cardiac, vascular, and thoracic surgeries. Description: Unit Notes: This unit cares for patients undergoing cardiac, vascular, and thoracic surgeries. Patients may require support from ECMO, LVAD, or heart transplant services. Ratios on the unit are typically 1:2 or 1:1. RNs are required to titrate critical care drips, including inotropes and sedation. There is a charge nurse and house supervisors on the unit. Nursing assistants are present, with a typical ratio of 1-3 per shift. Intensivists and advanced practice providers are available 24/7. Respiratory therapy services are present 24/7, equipped with necessary equipment. Telemetry services are available, and RNs should recognize ECG changes. Weekend requirements include a minimum of three shifts per schedule, which may include floating to other ICU or stepdown units. There is no call or standby requirement for this position. The dress code for the unit is royal blue scrubs. Nurses must work into the holiday rotation as part of the staff requirements. A one-week orientation is provided for the unit. The facility uses an EPIC charting system.
