Advanced ED Technician I | BLS Certified

General Summary

Under the supervision of the Emergency Services Director and Shift Manager, the Emergency Department Technician Level 1 performs both direct and indirect patient care activities. This role is vital in enhancing patient outcomes, ensuring safety, and delivering accurate information to healthcare professionals and patients' families.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Perform vital signs, 12-lead EKGs, specimen collection, and point-of-care testing such as glucometer readings.
• Assist with activities of daily living including dressing, bathing, grooming, hygiene, toileting, feeding, and mobility support.
• Apply and remove splints, backboards, cervical collars, and KED devices; provide simple wound care and dressings.
• Set up and assist with medical exams and procedures; monitor physical restraints as needed.
• Support indirect patient care by transporting patients, managing bedside monitoring equipment, responding to call lights, stocking supplies, and maintaining cleanliness in patient care areas.
• May serve as Lead Technician, facilitating communication, problem-solving, multitasking, and providing respectful direction within the emergency department team.
• Maintain professionalism, organization, and accountability while working independently and under pressure.
• Communicate effectively with patients, visitors, and staff, utilizing de-escalation techniques and ensuring smooth patient flow.
• Document all relevant patient information promptly and accurately in electronic health records.
• Participate in ongoing education, competency testing, quality audits, and council activities to uphold care standards and infection prevention protocols.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Experience

At least one year of experience in direct patient caregiving roles is preferred.

Requirements

• Certification as PCA or CNA preferred.
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
• Class E driving license within 90 days of hire, if applicable.
• Completion of CEVO certification within 90 days or as scheduling allows.
• Mandt training course completion.

Mental and Physical Demands

Requires considerable mental focus, frequent walking, standing, lifting up to 35 lbs., and various physical movements such as turning, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, twisting, and reaching.

Working Conditions

Exposure to infectious diseases, bloodborne pathogens, radiation, anti-neoplastic agents, and biohazardous materials is intermittent but predictable. The role may also involve interaction with hostile individuals.
