Radiology Technologist II - PRN

Job Summary At Houston Methodist, the Radiologic Tech II position is responsible for a variety of routine and specialized diagnostic radiology procedures to include X-ray and Fluoroscopy exams of moderate to high complexity utilizing digital radiography and fluoroscopy techniques. This position is a member of the direct patient care team and demonstrates full competence in all aspects of various radiology procedures. The Radiologic Tech II serves as a mentor to the Radiologic Technologist I and students, helping to train and educate others. The role works independently, exercising sound judgment and executing above‑average clinical skills on challenging diagnostic procedures and patient care situations. The Radiologic Tech II provides direct assistance to physicians with all diagnostic radiologic procedures and delivers exceptional patient care while adhering to radiation standards and guidelines established by governing agencies to ensure optimal patient safety and customer service. FLSA Status Non‑exempt Qualifications Education Graduate of an education program approved by the credentialing body for the required credential(s) indicated below in the Certifications, Licenses and Registrations section. Experience Three years’ experience as a Radiologic Technologist Licenses and Certifications (Required) ARRT‑R – Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) – American Registry of Radiologic Technologists – PSV CMRT – Certified Medical Radiologic Technologist – State Licensure – Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation – PSV BLS – Basic Life Support or Instructor (AHA) – American Heart Association Skills and Abilities Demonstrates the skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job, determined through ongoing competence assessments and performance evaluations. Proficient in speaking, reading, and writing English to perform essential functions, especially those impacting patient or employee safety or security. Effectively communicates with patients, physicians, family members, and co‑workers in a customer‑service focused manner applying positive language principles. Works independently, handling challenging or difficult diagnostic procedures and patient care situations with sound judgment and above‑average clinical skills. Possesses basic computer knowledge; operates multiple computer systems, including Hospital/Radiology Information Systems and office software, to maintain patient and exam documents. Exhibits strong interpersonal and team‑player skills with all levels of the healthcare team, assuring delivery of excellent customer service to all patients, visitors, physicians, and co‑workers. Adapts to multiple ongoing priorities with minimal supervision, organizing workflow and actively participating in problem solving. Essential Functions People Essential Functions Promotes a positive work environment and contributes to a dynamic, team‑focused unit that actively helps one another achieve optimal department results. Guides and mentors Radiologic Technologist I and students to build confidence in skills, knowledge, and abilities, using peer‑to‑peer accountability toward departmental goals for retention and employee engagement. Facilitates open, professional communication to achieve mutual understanding and role modeling by example, promoting workplace efforts and problem resolution clearly and professionally. Service Essential Functions Performs diagnostic radiology procedures, including X‑ray exams, OR and Fluoroscopy procedures. Proactively assesses, identifies and responds to patient needs for adjustment or intervention to optimize patient care, image quality, and experience, including positioning, physiology, procedure preparation, and technical factors. Provides direct assistance to physicians during diagnostic procedures, including sterile technique support. Offers accurate explanations and instructions to patients and family members at an appropriate level using verbal and non‑verbal skills, terminology, and language. Quality/Safety Essential Functions Follows safety standards and conducts imaging procedures accordingly, using ALARA to protect patients, staff, and the public and following radiation safety standards. Practices sterile and aseptic techniques, ensuring compliance with radiation safety and infection control procedures, and adheres to job‑role, departmental, and hospital safety standards, practices, and policies. Identifies opportunities for corrective action and process improvement, providing recommendations and contributing to departmental and hospital quality and safety targets. Reports near‑misses and input errors promptly into the appropriate hospital patient safety reporting system to improve processes and identify trends. Ensures all imaging equipment has required quality control performed and is safe; reports malfunctions and performs preventative maintenance, calling for service when needed. Assists with implementation and education of departmental safety initiatives and standards of practice. Finance Essential Functions Provides accurate and complete documentation of patient procedures and enters charges at the time service is delivered. Uses resources efficiently, avoiding waste of supplies, and self‑motivates to manage time effectively and prioritize daily tasks. Growth/Innovation Essential Functions Participates in special projects, departmental initiatives, or shared governance activities, seizing opportunities to expand learning with a focus on continual development. Fosters a positive and constructive teaching environment by engaging students and co‑workers (Radiologic Technologist I) in valuable learning opportunities aligned with business objectives.
