JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: MAINTENANCE MECHANIC

REPORTS TO: DIRECTOR OF MAINTENANCE

JOB PURPOSE: To effectively perform skilled manual work and to maintain school district boiler heating and plumbing systems in a condition of operating excellence. Duties, Responsibilities and Accountabilities: 1. Assume responsibility for the maintenance and correct operation of the maintenance departments forklifts, man lifts, tractor, lawn equipment, pressure washers, ect… for the KGB school district. 2. Perform all maintenance and replacement work on the maintenance departments vehicles and rolling stock equipment, snow plows, plow bikes, spreaders, ect… as necessary. 3. Maintenance will include but not be limited to break jobs, oil changes, tire swaps and balancing, batteries and electrical, fuel systems, transmissions, chassis, in relation to small engine and rolling stock equipment. 4. Is available for emergency calls for building security, fire, vandalism ect.. as necessary for the KGB school district. 5. Operate light to moderately heavy vehicles and equipment. 6. Make estimates of material and repair parts requirements. Keep records of out time and material required to complete assignments. 7. Establish logs and maintain records on maintenance checks and work completed. 8. Establish and maintain cooperative relations with those contacted in the course of work. 9. Compile, inventory, and list consumable materials to maintain rolling stock and small engine equipment with a parts inventory. 10. Accompany contractors hired by the school district to assist in their duties to certify building systems such as sprinklers, fire alarm, extinguishers, hoods, elevators, boilers ect… 11. Assist other school district Maintenance Technicians as directed by the Director of Maintenance or his designee. 12. Perform or assist in interior and exterior building maintenance. The mechanic will be expected to act as boilerman 2 and work closely with the Boilerman. 13. Work to include but not limited to the heating needs, plumbing, carpentry and electrical as and where needed. 14. Is able to engage in all jobs as may be necessary. 15. Perform heavy manual labor for extended periods. If necessary, work under undesirable weather conditions. 16. Maintenance Mechanic duties include but are not limited to the above mentioned duties and other work will be assigned as required. Requirements:

1. High School Diploma with two years apprenticeship training in a job related area.
2. At least two years experience at a journeyman’s level in a Facilities maintenance or Mechanics related area.
3. Must possess a strong mechanical background with a thorough knowledge of vechile and small engine

equipment. 4. Must have the ability to follow oral and written directions, ask questions, elicit required information, and comprehend written materials, policies, rules and instructions. 5. Demonstrated ability to think clearly and quickly in emergency and stressful situations. 6. State of Alaska driver’s license with no restrictions. 7. Must possess or be able to obtain a First Aid card. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before parents, staff and students. Mathematical Skill: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Problem Solving: Can identify and resolves problems in a timely manner. Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, talk, hear, walk and sit. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 80 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff. Requires outside duty and exposure to outside weather conditions.
