This is a management position with responsibilities for the outside operations of the yard. It includes managing outside employees, scheduling, loading, and managing deliveries, overseeing receiving of incoming material, fleet management, and maintaining a safe and efficient workplace.

Primary Responsibilities Include:

• Oversee all delivery shipments from Dettinger Lumber Co.
• Line up, schedule, and plan deliveries
• Pull orders/make up units or pallets for delivery (and pick up)
• Load trucks for delivery, assist drivers in loading their trucks
• Plan, understand, and be able to explain/execute on how a load will fit on a truck in order of stops
• Choose the correct truck for delivery based on material type, weight, size, etc.
• Organize help and the correct equipment for unloading on the jobsite
• Coordinate with customers/sales team for delivery expectations and timing
• Monitor shipments and delivery routes on the road and jobsite utilizing GPS
• Assist drivers with questions, problems, and concerns over the phone
• Plan truck and equipment maintenance, repairs, and daily inspections
• Maintain, repair, tidy, and organize the lumber yard
• Restock material as needed
• Organize outside employees when needed with receiving, loading, or restocking material
• Manage projects/daily activities for all of the yard staff
• Prepare yard for seasonal changes/reorganization
• Oversee snow and ice removal (plowing, shoveling, and sanding)
• Other tasks as needed

Skills Required/To Develop for this Position:

• A good knowledge of the area’s geography, roads, and highways including Berkshire and Columbia counties
• The ability to manage and facilitate the delivery process
• Good oral and written communication skills
• The ability to perform under stressful situations
• A working knowledge of commercial vehicles and forklifts
• The ability to remain flexible under changing circumstances
• Good attention to detail with paperwork
