Staff Machine Learning Engineer

Responsibilities

• Design features and build large-scale machine learning models and systems for relevance, ranking, personalization, and engagement.
• Implement ML systems for search ranking, semantic retrieval, query understanding, and personalized product discovery.
• Apply transformer-based models, contrastive learning, vector search, LLMs, embedding-based retrieval, and multimodal learning to improve search and discovery.
• Build and optimize scalable, reproducible ML pipelines and real-time model-serving systems.
• Define and track performance metrics to evaluate model impact and identify improvement opportunities.
• Collaborate with product, engineering, and data science teams on technical solutions and business goals.
• Mentor and grow engineering talent and promote technical excellence and continuous learning.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, electrical engineering, mathematics, statistics, or a closely related field.
• At least 4 years of professional experience in applied machine learning.
• Experience with machine learning, deep learning, and statistical modeling.
• Proficiency in Python and/or Java and experience building production-grade ML systems.
• Preferred: master’s or PhD in a relevant technical field.
• Preferred: experience with search systems, information retrieval, recommendation engines, LLMs, embeddings, vector search, cloud platforms, and modern ML frameworks.
• Preferred: experience with ML lifecycle tools including MLflow, Kubeflow, Weights & Biases, or Amazon SageMaker.
• Preferred: experience leading cross-functional teams in startup or high-growth environments and communicating complex technical concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Base pay ranges from $152K/year to $277K/year depending on geographic market, knowledge, skills, and experience.
