Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Oncology Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: 12 Hours Nights Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: 1 year License: Active IL license required Certifications: BLS, ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Certificate Must-Have: Experience with IV chemotherapy and immunotherapy regimens. Description: The unit has 19 private beds. Staffing ratios are based on unit census, 1:5 on days and 1:6 on nights. Ratios may vary to 1:4-5 on days and 1:5-6 on nights. 1:1 staffing is provided for specific medications or therapies. Common patient diagnoses include all types of cancer, primarily lymphoma and leukemia, hematology, and medical patients. Patients receiving radiation oncology treatment are also cared for in this unit. Experience in administering IV chemotherapy and handling precautions is essential. RNs will not be required to titrate drips. Common set rate drips include heparin and chemotherapy (24-hour bags of methotrexate). A charge nurse is present on each shift and may take an assignment if needed. A house supervisor is available 24/7. Patient care technicians (PCTs) assist in the unit with a staffing ratio of 3 PCTs on days and 2 on nights when the census is full. RNs are not required to read their own telemetry strips as there are dedicated monitor techs. Shifts are scheduled as 12-hour shifts starting at 0700 or 1900, with self-scheduling options. Weekend work is required every other weekend. Holiday work is required every other holiday. Travelers will be added to the float rotation. RNs may float to other areas as needed. No specific scrub color is required. The unit utilizes electronic medical records for documentation. Experience giving IV chemotherapy and immunotherapy medications is essential.
