Family-owned Charleston area Construction company seeking qualified Accounting Manager/Controller to join their team! The Accounting Manager will be responsible for managing and overseeing all aspects of financial operations and employee relations. This position reports directly to the company President. The Accounting Manager’s responsibilities include accurate and timely preparation and analyses of all facets of the financial operations of the company, including financial statement preparation, cash management, budget preparation and analyses, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and all other fiscally related duties. The Accounting Manager’s responsibilities will also include handling employee relations, new hire, retention, termination, policies and procedures, employee benefits, payroll, and may perform other administrative duties as required. JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for all aspects of accounting (accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, general ledger entries, bank reconciliation, credit card expense report reconciliation, cash applications, collections, and payroll) Responsible for delivering timely and accurate financial processing, month end close, cash management reports, and balance sheet account reconciliations Responsible for cash management, including performing wire transfers, ACH payments, and maintaining lines of credit Maintain professional banking relationships Process new customer credit references and terms Coordinate and direct the development and preparation of budgets, forecasts, and projections Determine internal review scope and develop annual plans Review payroll taxes and ensure timely payment of payroll and corporate taxes by payroll service Prepare State Sales & Use Taxes: quarterly; semi-annually; or annually Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, bank reports, and various detailed analysis reports Maintain files and comply with record retention requirements Process payroll using a payroll service New Hire – Drug Test, E-Verify, SCHire, phone set-up Gather appropriate information from employees and maintain personnel files Set up employees on company e-mail address book for emergency contact purposes Maintain and update employee handbook and issue handbooks to employees Update and post company paid holidays Maintain employee vacation records Notify employees when time and attendance requirements have been satisfied to join the various benefit programs, including health, and Simple IRA programs Notify terminating employees of the COBRA insurance act and how to obtain its benefits File benefit forms with appropriate agencies Negotiate and manage the company’s commercial, workers compensation and health insurance policies and oversee the claims submission process to ensure loss control measures are being adhered to coordinate health care for employees involved in on-the-job accidents, report the information to the insurance company, maintain government forms required in such an event, and maintain accident records Meet with the various agencies, on an annual basis, that maintain the benefit programs and review costs and benefits Support a proactive safety environment, with emphasis on good housekeeping techniques Perform other job-related duties and special projects assigned, including office supplies procurement Prepare, review, negotiate, and administer owner contracts, subcontract agreements, purchase orders, vendor agreements, and other legal construction documents. Manage subcontractor compliance including Certificates of Insurance, W-9s, licensing documentation, prequalification requirements, and contract execution. Coordinate Notices of Commencement, Notices of Furnishing, Notice of Commencements, lien waivers, and other documentation required to protect company and owner interests. Administer subcontractor and supplier payment compliance, including conditional and unconditional lien waivers, joint check agreements, tiered subcontractor and vendor documentation, and final closeout requirements. Coordinate contract modifications, change orders, claims documentation, and legal correspondence with owners, subcontractors, vendors, attorneys, and insurance carriers. Maintain contract files and ensure compliance with company policies, contractual obligations, state lien laws, and regulatory requirements. Assist executive management with contractual risk analysis, dispute resolution, insurance claims, and legal matters affecting company operations. Coordinate and oversee the company's information technology systems, software platforms, telecommunications, cybersecurity initiatives, and third-party technology vendors. Maintain user accounts, software licensing, hardware inventory, data backups, and system security for all office personnel. Evaluate, implement, and maintain accounting, project management, document management, and collaboration software to improve operational efficiency. Provide technical support and system administration for Microsoft 365, Sage, project management software, cloud-based applications, and other business technologies. Coordinate and manage the preparation and submission of Requests for Qualifications, Requests for Proposals and other procurement opportunities. Prepare and maintain Work in Progress schedules, project profitability analysis, cost forecasting, and construction financial reporting. Coordinate annual financial reviews, tax preparation, banking relationships, bonding requirements, and insurance renewals. Develop internal controls, financial policies, administrative procedures, and operational processes to improve efficiency and reduce organizational risk. Support executive management with strategic planning, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow analysis, capital planning, and special projects. Coordinate with project managers to monitor project budgets, cost performance, billing, collections, and financial reporting throughout the project lifecycle. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Thorough knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles Strong leadership, management, and organizational skills Strong analytical and reasoning abilities Well-developed interpersonal and communication, verbal, and written skills Must be result and profit oriented with the ability to balance other business considerations and perform multifaceted projects Must be highly motivated and have the ability to function independently and multi-task Must be detail oriented Ability to manage and direct employees Ability to resolve employee conflicts, problems, and complaints Expert computer skills – proficient in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Sage, and Outlook with emphasize on using a merge program that transfers data to the appropriate forms MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, combined with 3-5 years’ experience in Accounting/Finance; MBA or CPA strongly preferred Work experience in Construction/General Contracting Preferred. #J-18808-Ljbffr Fulcrum Staffing, LLC
