Quality Control Auditor
The Quality Control Auditor ensures that product quality standards are consistently upheld across multiple foam production departments, including mattress, pillow, fiber, and carpet cushion. This role focuses on precise measurement, documentation, reporting, and collaboration with production teams to resolve quality issues. The auditor also supports lab testing activities, including buoyancy and fire-retardant tests, and plays a key role in processing customer claims and participating in audits.
Responsibilities:
- Verify that products produced in the mattress, pillow, fiber, and carpet cushion departments meet established quality standards.
- Perform frequent measurements using a tape measure to check product lengths, widths, thicknesses, and other dimensions with a high degree of accuracy.
- Document quality findings in detail and use computers and tablets to track data, compile results, and produce clear, concise reports.
- Communicate quality concerns and findings up the chain of command as needed to ensure timely resolution of issues.
- Assist with internal and external quality audits to confirm compliance with specifications and procedures.
- Process new customer quality claims as needed, gathering data, evaluating product issues, and supporting resolution efforts.
- Cross-train in the quality lab and learn to operate relevant testing equipment and tools.
- Follow established lab instructions and procedures to run buoyancy tests and fire-retardant tests on foam products.
- Work in areas where chemical smells may be present during lab testing, using provided hoods and safety equipment as directed.
- Interact regularly with production employees and supervisors on the floor to discuss quality concerns and provide guidance.
- De-escalate and resolve production quality issues in a professional, collaborative manner.
- Act as a self-starter at the beginning of the shift, taking initiative and managing workload independently before leadership arrives.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, adhering to all plant and lab safety protocols.
- Participate in orientation and successfully complete a tape measure test, including measurement and tolerance comprehension components.
- Demonstrate willingness to learn new equipment and processes, and continuously improve quality control and lab skills.
Essential Skills:
- At least 1 year of industrial quality experience in a manufacturing or similar environment.
- Strong proficiency in reading a tape measure, including inches and centimeters, and accurately measuring lengths, widths, thicknesses, and other dimensions.
- Ability to successfully complete a tape measure test at orientation, covering both measurements and tolerances in a word/comprehension format.
- Proficient computer skills and ability to use tablets to track findings, input data, and generate quality reports.
- Ability to stand and walk for the duration of the shift, moving between departments and interacting with employees and managers as needed.
- Demonstrated ability to de-escalate production problems and work collaboratively to resolve quality issues.
- Comfort working in an environment where chemical smells may be present during lab testing of foam products, including buoyancy and fire-retardant tests.
- Willingness to learn additional equipment and processes and to train in the lab to expand responsibilities.
- Ability to work independently and take initiative, particularly at the start of the shift before leadership is onsite.
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy in measurement, and thoroughness in documentation and reporting.
Additional Skills & Qualifications:
- Experience using Monte sticks in quality or lab settings.
- Previous quality lab experience, including running product tests or working with testing equipment.
- Experience working with foam products or in a foam manufacturing environment.
- High level of energy and initiative, with a proactive approach to identifying and addressing quality issues.
- Strong team player mindset, with a collaborative and supportive attitude toward coworkers and production staff.
- Stable work history that reflects reliability and commitment.

Work Environment:
This is a first-shift role, scheduled Monday through Friday from 5:45 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. The facility is clean, organized, and bright, with machinery, piping, and ceilings painted white to create a well-maintained and visually clear workspace. The environment includes standard manufacturing equipment and a quality lab setting, where computers and tablets are used to log work and track data. There is a specific area of the plant where chemical smells may be present due to mixing ingredients to produce foam; appropriate hoods and safety measures are provided during testing, though some odors may linger. The role requires spending most of the shift on your feet, walking between departments, and working in close proximity to production operations in a structured, safety-conscious environment.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Elkhart, IN.
Pay and Benefits:
The pay range for this position is $22.79 - $22.79/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
