Description:

Evaluates and treats patients referred by a licensed physician in accordance with the Practice Act for the State of Georgia the Guidelines for Professional Conduct of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) and the APTA Guide to Professional Practice. Actively supervises and participates in the care of patients treated by Licensed Physical Therapist Assistants and Athletic Trainers. Complies with hospital policies and supports the mission and values of the hospital.

The Physical Therapist must be duly licensed by the Georgia State Board of Physical Therapy. The Physical Therapist must be a graduate of an APTA or other accredited school of Physical Therapy. Physical Therapists may have Bachelors Masters or Doctorate degrees. Physical Therapists should have as a minimum broad experience in a variety of different clinical settings through their APTA or other accredited clinical internship have a working knowledge of the principles and practices of Physical Therapy including evaluation treatment planning modality applications and all manner of therapeutic exercise and patient mobility treatments. Should also be knowledgeable of required documentation and billing that satisfies the Georgia State practice act JCAHO requirements and meets the requirements of Medicare Medicaid and other insurers. Must be able to plan organize and coordinate therapy treatments with other therapy providers most notably Licensed Physical Therapy Assistants (LPTAs) Occupational Therapists (OTRs) and Speech Therapists (SLPs). Must be able to work collaboratively with all other members of the St. Marys Health Care System including nurses physicians and hospital personnel. Must be able to deal constructively with conflict;collect analyze and interpret data from a variety of sources and take appropriate action. Must be able to relate to physician referral sources and demonstrate excellent customer service. Must be willing and able to participate in clinical quality measurement and performance improvement programs as requested and be in compliance with all of St. Marys Health Care System policies and procedures.

VI: Physical Requirements: This position requires keen hearing and visual acuity in order to properly assess patients. Some close eye work required (computers typing reading writing). Prolonged and considerable amounts of standing and walking. The Therapist must be able to turn lift push pull and transfer patients. The therapist must also be able to lift push and pull equipment of up to fifty (50) pounds.

VII. Personal Protective Equipment:

This position requires the use of personal protective equipment during various tasks/activities. Universal precautions should be followed. Personal protective equipment includes but is not limited to: back support belts gloves masks and safety glasses.
