This position works within the Utilities Design and Construction Division and performs engineering and construction administration work for the Transportation Construction Branch. Please review our awesome benefits: * Benefits * Retirement Our Utilities Design and Construction Division is responsible for managing the bid advertisement, contract award processes, and overseeing all aspects of construction contract management for transportation projects and stormwater projects including inspection, testing, code compliance, warranty, and project closeout. The division also oversees the completion of developer default projects in the county. This position is in the Transportation Construction Branch, located in Fairfax County Government center at 12000 Government Center Parkway, Fairfax, Virginia. This position may be eligible for telework. *A $5,000 signing bonus is available to new county employees hired in the Engineer IV position. Employment Standards MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to the following: (Click on the aforementioned link to learn how Fairfax County interprets equivalencies for "Any combination, experience, and training equivalent to") Graduation from a four-year college or university accredited by the Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technologies with a bachelor's degree in the appropriate engineering or architectural field; plus, four years of progressively responsible professional experience in the appropriate engineering or architectural field. CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED: Valid driver's license Valid Virginia Professional Engineer (PE) or Architect License An individual who possesses a valid Professional Engineer or Architect license in another state will be granted a temporary exemption to this requirement pending the Board for Architects, Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, Certified Interior Designers & Landscape Architects decision regarding that individual's application for reciprocity. Please note that if the selected candidate is licensed in another state, they will be required to obtain a Virginia PE or RA license through the reciprocity process within twelve (12) months of the award letter date as a condition of employment. NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check and driving record check to the satisfaction of the employer. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Five (5) years of experience preparing, procuring, administering, and managing construction and engineering contracts for site or utility construction. Five (5) years of experience managing multiple complex capital projects in design and/or construction. Experience in resolving construction claim disputes and thorough knowledge of construction contracts. Three (3) years of experience working with VDOT projects or VDOT permits. Three (3) years of experience working with VDOT LAP projects or completion of VDOT Locally Administered Projects (LAP) Qualification Program. Experience with project financial and budgetary planning, tracking, and reporting at the project level. Five (5) years of experience applying local, federal, and/or state building and site development codes. Highly motivated, organized, and detail-oriented construction management professional with strong communication skills and demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative team environment, particularly in managing and documenting construction activities. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to lift up to 30 lbs. Ability to participate in and understand verbal conversations at typical speaking volume and pace as well as respond to audio alarms and verbal warnings on construction sites, over the phone, and in the office workplace. Ability to physically negotiate rough terrain and typical construction sites. Ability to read, understand, and produce written and typed documents. Ability to use computers/computer software for communication, report generation, electronic file-keeping, project metrics analysis, and project tracking purposes. Ability to walk steep grades and off-street terrain. Approximately 20% of time spent performing field investigations, measurements, meetings and reviews of construction projects including intersection improvements, sidewalks, trails, roads, retaining walls, developer projects, and other similar projects.
