Role Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and reliable Aquaculture Specialist to support daily operations for zebrafish facilities. This role is critical for ensuring consistent, high-quality animal care. The position requires a commitment of approximately 20 hours per week, with an emphasis on weekend and holiday coverage. The successful candidate will work both independently and as part of an experienced team.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform daily tank changes, feeding, and health and welfare checks for zebrafish populations.
• Operate and maintain recirculating aquaculture systems.
• Maintain the facility in compliance with established animal care requirements.
• Provide primary coverage during weekends and holidays across two facilities.
• Offer supplemental weekday hours for vacation and emergency coverage.
• Maintain live invertebrate cultures used for feeding.
• Assist with general cleaning and facility upkeep.
• Use team communication and tracking tools for monitoring and reporting.

Required Qualifications

• A strong sense of reliability, trustworthiness, and an exceptional work ethic.
• A genuine care for animals and a commitment to their welfare.
• The ability to work independently with minimal supervision, particularly during weekends.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Strong references from previous managers demonstrating dependability.
• A strong interest in biology, animal husbandry, animal behavior, or related fields.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working in a large-scale fish facility.
• Hands-on experience with basic electronics or plumbing.
• Experience with home aquariums or in pet store environments.
