Job Summary

Hamilton Health Center is seeking a Senior Director of Financial Operations to provide senior-level leadership and oversight of the organization’s financial operations, accounting operations, financial controls, and related business processes.

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, this position is responsible for strengthening financial performance by maintaining strong financial controls, maximizing revenue, minimizing revenue leakage, improving cash flow, and ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting. The Senior Director works collaboratively with executive leadership, clinical leadership, operations, information technology, compliance, and external partners to improve financial performance and operational efficiency.

The Senior Director also provides leadership and oversight to the Controller and accounting team, with responsibility for ensuring general ledger activity, reconciliations, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll-related accounting, month-end close, financial reporting, and internal controls are completed accurately and timely.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide leadership and oversight to the Controller and accounting team
• Ensure accurate and timely completion of the monthly financial close process
• Oversee general ledger activity, account reconciliations, accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash management, fixed assets, and other accounting functions
• Ensure financial transactions are properly recorded in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and applicable healthcare, FQHC, and nonprofit requirements
• Review financial statements and supporting schedules for accuracy and completeness
• Establish and maintain appropriate internal controls over financial operations
• Monitor balance sheet reconciliations and ensure discrepancies are identified and resolved promptly
• Oversee preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports
• Work with the CFO and Controller to ensure accurate financial information is available to executive leadership and the Board of Directors
• Assist with annual audits and coordinate requests from external auditors
• Monitor accounting policies and procedures and recommend improvements as appropriate
• Ensure appropriate segregation of duties and financial controls
• Assist with cash management and forecasting to support organizational liquidity and financial stability
• Ensure financial and revenue cycle processes comply with applicable federal and state laws, payer requirements, contractual obligations, and organizational policies
• Maintain appropriate controls to protect organizational assets and prevent fraud, waste, and abuse
• Monitor compliance with payer billing and reimbursement requirements
• Provide leadership, direction, and accountability to finance leaders and staff
• Establish clear performance expectations and measurable goals and develop staff through coaching, training, mentoring, and performance management
• Evaluate organizational structure and staffing levels to ensure appropriate resources are available to meet financial and operational objectives
• Identify opportunities to streamline workflows and eliminate unnecessary or duplicative processes
• Lead financial operations improvement initiatives designed to increase efficiency, reduce costs, improve cash flow, and strengthen financial controls
• Identify opportunities for automation and technology improvements across Finance and Revenue Cycle
• Develop standard operating procedures and support consistent implementation
• Use data and performance metrics to identify root causes of financial and operational issues and develop sustainable solutions
• Participate in organizational strategic planning and business development activities
• Support implementation of new systems, vendors, payer arrangements, and operational initiatives affecting financial performance
• Manage special projects and initiatives as assigned

Qualifications Required

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or a related field
• Minimum of 7–10 years of progressively responsible experience in finance, accounting, revenue cycle, or healthcare financial operations
• Significant experience managing healthcare revenue cycle operations
• Demonstrated experience managing accounts receivable, denials, billing, collections, payer relationships, and reimbursement
• Experience developing and monitoring financial and operational performance metrics
• Experience managing and developing teams and department leaders
• Experience with healthcare information systems, electronic health records, practice management systems, and financial/accounting systems

Preferred

• Master’s degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Finance, Accounting, or a related field
• CPA, CMA, or other relevant professional certification
• Experience overseeing accounting and/or Controller functions
• Experience within a hospital, health center, FQHC, physician practice, or other healthcare organization

Knowledge, Skills & Leadership Competencies

• Strong knowledge of healthcare revenue cycle operations and reimbursement
• Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting, and internal controls
• Strong knowledge of accounts receivable, cash flow management, payer billing, and reimbursement processes
• Ability to interpret complex financial and operational data and translate findings into actionable recommendations
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, project management, and process-improvement skills
• Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
• High level of attention to detail and accuracy
• Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel and financial reporting tools
• Ability to communicate financial information effectively to individuals with varying levels of financial expertise
• Demonstrated strategic thinking, accountability, analytical thinking, operational excellence, collaboration, communication, change leadership, and integrity
