Summary This position is located with the Bureau of Indian Affairs in Lakewood, Colorado. Responsibilities As Geologist, GS-1350, your typical work assignments may include, but not limited to: Provides expert technical advisory, consulting, and reviewing services on geological and geochemical matters for energy and mineral resource assessment and development efforts on Indian land. Furnishes technical advice regarding statutes, regulations, policies, and procedures for energy and mineral development. Plans, directs, and coordinates examinations of Indian lands for purposes of locating economically viable energy and mineral resources. Prepares comprehensive technical and economic analysis, reports, and presentations regarding energy and mineral projects on Indian land. Evaluates, monitors, and reviews tribal energy resource development programs, including the feasibility of planned projects, budgets, appropriateness of proposed work, and acceptability of deliverable products. Maintains "state-of-the-art" knowledge of new methods, software, technologies, markets, and taxes that are involved in the development of solid energy and mineral resources. Serve as liaison with tribes, attorneys, industry, and federal agencies. Provides technical training on mineral development to both technical and non-technical personnel within BIA and the tribes. Individual Occupational Requirements Basic Requirements: Degree: geology, plus 20 additional semester hours in any combination of mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological science, structural, chemical, civil, mining or petroleum engineering, computer science, planetary geology, comparative planetology, geophysics, meteorology, hydrology, oceanography, physical geography, marine geology, and cartography. or Combination of education and experience -- course work as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: GS-13: At least one year of specialized experience or the equivalent, comparable to at least the GS-12 in the Federal Service (obtained in either the public or private sector). Specialized experience is in the area of Oil and gas, helium, or geothermal energy development on Federal land. All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement. Merit Promotion candidates must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the announcement closing date.
