Summary This position is located with the Bureau of Indian Affairs in Lakewood, Colorado. Responsibilities As Geologist, GS-1350, your typical work assignments may include, but not limited to: Provides expert technical advisory, consulting, and reviewing services on geological and geochemical matters for energy and mineral resource assessment and development efforts on Indian land. Furnishes technical advice regarding statutes, regulations, policies, and procedures for energy and mineral development. Plans, directs, and coordinates examinations of Indian lands for purposes of locating economically viable energy and mineral resources. Prepares comprehensive technical and economic analysis, reports, and presentations regarding energy and mineral projects on Indian land. Evaluates, monitors, and reviews tribal energy resource development programs, including the feasibility of planned projects, budgets, appropriateness of proposed work, and acceptability of deliverable products. Maintains "state-of-the-art" knowledge of new methods, software, technologies, markets, and taxes that are involved in the development of solid energy and mineral resources. Serve as liaison with tribes, attorneys, industry, and federal agencies. Provides technical training on mineral development to both technical and non-technical personnel within BIA and the tribes. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: (OPM Operating Manual, Qualification Standards for Professional and Scientific Positions and Individual Occupational Requirements, Geologist Series 1350). Individual Occupational Requirements Basic Requirements: Degree: geology, plus 20 additional semester hours in any combination of mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological science, structural, chemical, civil, mining or petroleum engineering, computer science, planetary geology, comparative planetology, geophysics, meteorology, hydrology, oceanography, physical geography, marine geology, and cartography. or Combination of education and experience -- course work as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: GS-13: At least one year of specialized experience or the equivalent, comparable to at least the GS-12 in the Federal Service (obtained in either the public or private sector). Specialized experience is in the area of Oil and gas, helium, or geothermal energy development on Federal land. All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement. Merit Promotion candidates must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the announcement closing date. One academic year of graduate education is considered to be the number of credits hours your graduate school has determined to represent one academic year of full-time study. Such study may have been performed on a full-time or part-time basis. If you cannot obtain your graduate school's definition of one year of graduate study, 18 semester hours (or 27 quarter hours) should be considered as satisfying the requirement for one year of full-time graduate study. If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must send a Certificate of Foreign Equivalency with your transcript in order to receive credit for that education which shows the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
