ABOUT EL FAMOSO

El Famoso is an Austin-area operations partner for music artists, brands, and creative businesses. We run e-commerce stores, warehouse fulfillment, tour merchandise, retail supply, and product development — the work behind the crowd.

THE OPPORTUNITY

We’re hiring a hands-on Controller to keep our books accurate, client billing complete, and financial reporting timely. QuickBooks Online is our accounting system, and your first priority will be dependable day-to-day accounting and a consistent monthly close.

You’ll work closely with leadership, operations, and an outside CFO advisor. This could be a good next step for a strong Senior Accountant or Accounting Manager who is ready to take broader ownership in a growing business.

WHAT YOU’LL OWN

QuickBooks Online and month-end close

• Maintain the general ledger, prepare journal entries and accruals, and own a monthly close calendar agreed with leadership.
• Reconcile bank, credit card, payment-processor, and balance-sheet accounts with clear supporting records.
• Keep books and intercompany entries organized across affiliated entities, and prepare year-end schedules with our outside CFO advisor and CPA.

Client billing and settlements

• Prepare and review client invoices in QBO using agreed rates, service activity, and billing schedules.
• Reconcile billing inputs to invoices, investigate missing or unusual charges, and work with operations to resolve exceptions.
• Prepare client settlements, reconcile payouts and related balances, and work with account managers on billing questions, collections, and documented corrections.

Payables, payroll, and accounting controls

• Manage vendor invoices, coding, approvals, payment schedules, and account reconciliations.
• Coordinate payroll inputs and processing, review accuracy, and reconcile payroll-related accounts.
• Maintain practical payment and close controls, support sales-tax filings and reconciliations, and coordinate complex tax or accounting questions with our outside advisors.

Inventory and management reporting

• Work with operations to reconcile inventory and cost of goods sold, including the records supporting client-owned merchandise.
• Produce monthly QBO reports covering profit and loss, the balance sheet, cash flow, and receivables/payables, with clear explanations of material changes.
• Support leadership and our CFO advisor with budget comparisons, cash planning, and margin analysis as reporting becomes established.

INVOICING AUTOMATION

As our BigQuery-based invoicing workflow is rolled out, partner with the data and operations teams to define billing checks, review generated invoice data against source activity, resolve exceptions, and approve amounts before invoices are issued through QBO.

Your focus is accounting accuracy and review. Our data team supports the technical development. Experience with automated billing is helpful, and we’ll help you learn our workflow.

YOUR FIRST 90 DAYS

Learn our clients and accounting workflows, establish a reliable close and billing calendar, take ownership of recurring reconciliations and reporting, and agree on the next process improvements with leadership. Larger systems projects will be prioritized together.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING

• Hands-on accounting experience that includes responsibility for month-end close, account reconciliations, and financial statements.
• Current QuickBooks Online proficiency, including the chart of accounts, classes, journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reports.
• A sound understanding of accrual accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and practical accounting controls.
• Strong Excel skills for reconciling exports and checking data, including lookups and pivot tables.
• Clear communication, attention to detail, discretion with confidential information, and the ability to work on-site south of Austin.

NICE TO HAVE — NOT REQUIRED

• Experience in e-commerce, merchandise, fulfillment, inventory accounting, or client settlements.
• A degree in accounting or finance, CPA, or CMA.
• Familiarity with Shopify, ShipHero, Avalara, or similar operating systems.
• Power Query, BigQuery, or experience reviewing automated finance workflows.
