Assistant Professor Cardiothoracic Radiologist

The Department of Radiology in the Joe R and Teresa Lozano long School of Medicine at UT Health San Antonio is seeking a Cardiothoracic Radiologist for a faculty position at the Assistant Professor rank and will include teaching duties. Our hospitals are regional referral centers for trauma, oncology, surgery, general medicine, and organ transplantation. Cardiothoracic radiologists at UT Health San Antonio (UT Health SA) focus on subspecialty interpretation and consultation for imaging of the heart, lungs, mediastinum, and chest wall. They operate within a high-volume, academic environment, providing services for University Hospital‑the busiest Level 1 trauma center in South Texas, the MARC (Medical Arts and Research Center), and the Mays Cancer Center. Additional duties include interpretation of chest radiography, high-resolution CT (HRCT) for interstitial lung disease, and thoracic oncology imaging. Cardiac Imaging: Specialized interpretation of cardiac CT/MRI, including coronary CT angiography (CCTA), calcium scoring, and cardiac viability protocols. Advanced Imaging Protocols: Performing and interpreting "one-stop" triple rule-out CT angiography for evaluating aortic dissection, pulmonary embolism, and coronary artery disease. Procedure Planning Support: Utilizing CCTA for pre-procedural planning, including TAVR (Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement), left atrial closure, and pulmonary venous mapping for ablation. Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Providing consultation and collaborating with departments such as pulmonology, thoracic surgery, and oncology, particularly regarding lung transplant and interstitial lung disease cases. Interventional Procedures: Involvement in nonvascular thoracic interventional procedures, including radiofrequency ablation. Academic and Teaching Responsibilities: Teaching medical students, mentoring radiology residents in the interpretation of chest studies, and participating in multidisciplinary pulmonary and oncology conferences. Applicants should be competent in diagnostic radiology to include cardiothoracic chest imaging, cardiac radiology (CT and MR). Duties include teaching medical students, overseeing/mentoring residents in the performance and interpretation of cardiothoracic imaging studies; participating in research and providing clinical care to patients; and participation in various teaching/patient management conferences. Candidate must possess a Medical Degree, have completed a Diagnostic Radiology Residency program, be board certified/eligible in Diagnostic Radiology by the American Board of Radiology, be fellowship trained in Cardiothoracic or Chest Radiology and currently have or be able to obtain a Texas Medical License prior to start.
