Social Service Coordinator
The Social Service Coordinator oversees the daily operations of social service programs designed to support individuals and families in achieving stability and self-sufficiency. This role ensures services are delivered effectively and in compliance with organizational policies and funding requirements, while providing supervision and guidance to program staff. Serving as a liaison between clients, community partners, and internal departments, the coordinator promotes a client-centered approach, supports crisis intervention and case management efforts, and ensures accurate documentation and reporting. In a fast-paced nonprofit environment, this position fosters professionalism, accountability, and continuous program improvement aligned with the organization's mission.
Duties and responsibilities include exercising sound judgment in an emergency situation when Corps Officers are not available, overseeing all financial and business matters, preparing and taking deposits for corps and thrift store, preparing monthly reports for different programs at the Corps, preparing monthly statistical reports for DHQ, in the absence of the Corps Officer, preparing financial and GIK donation reports, assisting with organizing, preparing and supporting community, council, and board meetings, assisting with all tasks deemed necessary for the overall operation of Corps and thrift store, as assigned by the Corps Officers, primary oversight of all Social Services client assistance including utility, clothing and food assistances with data entry into WellSky and Oasis databases, responsible for all food pantry inventory, assisting with Holiday Seasonal Programs, overseeing Volunteer Paperwork, upkeep of files and volunteer activity, preparing and submitting Food Bank Reports, upkeep of Community Information bulletin board, attending staff meetings, advisory board meetings, and travel for special conferences and trainings, providing support for special community events, and other related duties as required.
Education and experience required include a CA Driver's License, high school or G.E.D., office and social service experience, computer experience and familiarity with Microsoft Office database programs, good writing, spelling, grammar, and proofreading skills, and the ability to understand, follow and receive oral and written instructions in English. Bilingual in Spanish is preferred.
Skills and abilities include being an organizer, self-motivated and flexible with supervisory skills and good people skills, ability to perform basic office duties such as type, answer phones, use copy and fax equipment, punctual and have a good appearance and good attendance record, understanding of the philosophy and purposes of The Salvation Army would be desirable, creativity, motivation, diligence, telephone conversation skills, and the ability to get along with other workers, customers and public relation skills, general practical business knowledge including supervision of people, the managers as well as the employees are required to work at any or all jobs, work with Corps Officers on setting goals, productivity and the reporting of any problems or break downs, travel requirements as needed, great communication skills, strong public relations skills, ability to interact with people of diverse backgrounds and de-escalate difficult situations, ability to set boundaries.
Physical requirements include the ability to lift up to 35 lbs. Equipment used includes modern office equipment and relevant software.
