Job Details Job ID: 5811904 Application Deadline: Jun 01, 2027 11:59 PM (Central Standard Time) Posted: Jul 01, 2026 5:00 AM (UTC) Starting Date: To Be Determined Job Description 2026-27 School Year Purpose Statement The job of Bus Aide was established for the purpose of providing support within the student transportation services area with specific responsibilities for ensuring students are safely, efficiently and timely transported over scheduled routes and/or to/from special excursions; and ensuring safety of students during transport, loading and unloading from buses. This job reports to Assistant Director of Transportation. Essential Functions Assist students for the purpose of providing safe loading and unloading from buses during normal transport and emergency situations. Work cooperatively and collaboratively with teachers, administrators, parents and other staff members in the implementation of safe riding habits, behavior and bus plans for students. Properly restrain students following district procedures if required. Work with students and encourage, train and reinforce appropriate behavior and safe riding. Adapt to changes and behaviors to meet the students’ needs. Interact positively with students and model appropriate behavior. Provide escort and assistance to students as necessary. Maintain confidentiality of student records and other information shared about students. Attend unit meetings, in-service training, workshops, etc. for the purpose of gathering information required to perform job functions. Redirect students for the purpose of enforcing rules/regulations and maintaining student safety and wellbeing. Monitor students with special needs until released to teacher, instructional assistant, parent, etc. for the purpose of ensuring the safe transportation of all passengers. Prepare reports (e.g. incident reports, passenger conduct, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference, conveying information, and/or complying with established guidelines. Report observations and/or incidents (e.g. discipline, accidents, inappropriate social behavior, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information to appropriate personnel for their action. Be flexible in changing assignments and duties with little to no notice. Work with students with behavior, medical, ambulatory and other special needs. Deal with daily stressors such as inappropriate verbal and physical behaviors. Operate specialized equipment such as wheelchair lifts. Safety inspect and utilize various child safety restraint systems (CSRS) including wheelchair securements. Other Functions Perform other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit. Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications Skills, Knowledge and Abilities Skills Perform multiple tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Apply pertinent codes, policies, regulations and/or laws. Use special equipment such as: fire extinguisher, two-way radio, and standard office equipment. Prepare and maintain accurate records. Knowledge Perform basic math. Understand written procedures. Write routine documents, and speak clearly; and solve practical problems. Safety practices and procedures. Emergency evacuation techniques. First aid, health standards and hazards. Utilization of special equipment such as wheelchairs, tie downs, CSRS, child safety seats, lifts, etc. Ability Schedule activities and/or meetings. Gather and/or collate data; and use job-related equipment. Work with others in a wide variety of circumstances. Use equipment utilizing specific, defined processes; and operate equipment using standardized methods. Work with a wide diversity of individuals. Handle similar types of data; and utilize a variety of job-related equipment. Problem solve to analyze issues and create action plans. Problem solve with data requires following prescribed guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is moderate. Communicate with diverse groups. Maintain confidentiality. Work as part of a team. Responsibilities Work under limited supervision following standardized practices and/or methods; provide information and/or advise others; and operate within a defined budget. Physical Demands The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: Regularly sit, talk, and hear. Regularly lift, carry, push, and/or pull; some climbing and balancing; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; significant fine finger dexterity, and sense of smell. Must regularly lift and/or move up to 40 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds. Must move about a moving vehicle to meet the needs of students requiring the ability to balance and coordinate movements. Vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 75% sitting, 15% walking, 5% standing and 5% crouching/kneeling. Working Environment The work environment includes moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and vibration. Exposure to outside weather conditions. Noise level is usually moderate.
