Data Science & Informatics Specialist

Salary: $86,688 - 116,544 per year Requirements:

• We require a bachelors degree in informatics, data science, mathematics, computer science, statistics, biostatistics, epidemiology, or a related technical or quantitative discipline.
• We require at least one year of experience performing data science or informatics-related work.
• Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
• We prefer candidates with certification such as CPA, AFE, or CFE.
• We prefer proficiency with Microsoft Excel, including advanced spreadsheets, macros, complex formulas, filters, and links to external data sources.
• We prefer basic knowledge of medical coding terminology and systems, including CPT, HCPCS, ICD-9, and ICD-10.
• We prefer basic familiarity with medical billing.
• We prefer experience with Microsoft Word, Outlook, Access, and Adobe Acrobat.
• We prefer working knowledge of RAT-STATS, SQL, and SAS.
• We prefer knowledge of financial and data analytics.
• Experience in healthcare, public health, or data visualization tools is considered desirable.

• We perform research, query, and analyze complex Medicaid claim and encounter data to identify fraud-related trends, anomalies, and patterns.
• We review financial, billing, and healthcare records to detect indicators of fraud.
• We assist with creating, writing, and running data queries using SQL and other available programming languages.
• We help design and implement advanced statistical models and data algorithms.
• We support investigative work to assess allegations of fraudulent billing and related issues.
• We use SQL queries and software tools to carry out complex quantitative and qualitative analysis for case development.
• We analyze healthcare service claim and encounter data to assess utilization and respond to data requests.
• We research Medicaid billing and program guides, policies, state and federal regulations, payment methods, procedure codes, modifier codes, and diagnosis codes.
• We study medical coding systems and guidelines for CPT, HCPCS, ICD, DRG, EAPG, and related standards to identify billing and coding irregularities.
• We examine financial, billing, audit, and healthcare records gathered during intake, search warrants, and Civil Investigative Demands.
• We work with senior data scientists to review analytical reports, spreadsheets, data visualizations, and related materials.
• We maintain reports, documents, spreadsheets, correspondence, and other records in electronic form.
