Special Education Resource Teacher

Teacher for Self-contained Multi-categorical High Needs Program

A. Educational Level: Bachelor's Degree or higher B. Experience Desired: Teaching experience preferred but not required C. Certification: Valid Nebraska Teaching Certificate with special education teaching endorsement.

D. Skills to provide an individualized program for each student in the areas of self-help, motor, communication socialization and occupational skills. To develop these skills to the student's fullest potential and prepare the student to function as independently as possible in their environment.

REPORTS TO: Building Principal and Director of Special Education

Essential Functions

1. Must be able to develop and implement student IEP's.

2. Observe and record characteristics of students in areas of language, perceptual, sensory-motor, intellectual, social, emotional and vocational development.

3. Measure or evaluate the developmental areas and identify patterns of strengths and weaknesses in the learning modalities of the student.

4. Establish goals including transition and develop learning tasks in a sequential order, leading to the development of skills in a specific area.

5. Select and plan sequential instructional activities to teach a task or concept, including the materials and equipment necessary to carry out the activity.

6. Develop or modify instructional materials to meet the need of a learning activity.

7. Implement learning activities in group or individual instructional setting, including evaluation of student performance.

8. Design and utilize behavior modification techniques to deal with deviant student behavior and/or to gain a higher level of student performance.

9. Keep thorough ongoing records of student performance, including student achievement, placement documents, IEP's, medical information, and any other student records according to district policy.

10. Organize and report pupil progress and behavior to parents or guardians.

11. Counsel with parents or guardians regarding their child's handicap in reference to education, vocation, socialization, emotions and life goals.

12. Interact with and supervise para-educators as part of the instructional team.

13. Function as a member of a professional team involved in making decisions regarding curriculum development and program improvement.

14. Assume responsibility for requisitioning and maintaining needed equipment and supplies.

15. Identify community resources as an extension of the instructional program.

16. Must comply with state mandates for the education of verified students.
