Payroll Tax & Accounting Specialist (Short-Term Contract)

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced accounting professional to provide short-term support with Wisconsin payroll tax compliance and related accounting activities. This engagement will focus on reviewing, preparing, reconciling, and filing Wisconsin withholding tax reports, while providing additional payroll and accounting support as needed.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare, review, and file Wisconsin WT-6 Withholding Tax Deposit Reports
• Prepare and reconcile Wisconsin WT-7 Employer Annual Reconciliation Reports
• Research and resolve payroll tax discrepancies
• Reconcile withholding tax balances to payroll records and general ledger accounts
• Review payroll records for accuracy and compliance
• Assist with payroll processing and payroll-related reporting
• Support month-end close activities as needed
• Maintain documentation and ensure compliance with state reporting requirements
• Collaborate with internal accounting and finance teams to resolve outstanding items

Qualifications

• 3+ years of accounting, payroll, or payroll tax experience
• Prior experience with Wisconsin withholding tax filings, including WT-6 and WT-7 forms
• Strong understanding of payroll tax compliance and reconciliations
• Experience with payroll systems and Microsoft Excel
• Ability to work independently and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with nonprofit, education, or public sector organizations
• Exposure to month-end close and general accounting functions
• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field

• Demonstrated experience in full charge bookkeeping, including payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and reconciliations.

• Working knowledge of payroll practices, employee deductions, and compliance with relevant wage laws and reporting requirements.
