Position Senior Attorney, Civil Investigations Unit Responsibilities Investigate potential violations of Financial Services, Insurance, and Banking laws and other state and federal laws, including assisting in requesting and reviewing document productions, negotiating discovery disputes, taking testimony, negotiating settlements with opposing counsel, and preparing for and conducting administrative hearings and litigation. Propose and develop new areas and subjects for investigation. Assist in reviewing proposed legislation and regulations and implementing passed legislation and adopted regulations. Provide legal advice on matters regarding regulatory actions and develop legal approaches to accomplish departmental objectives. Assist in investigating complaints filed with the Department by consumers and consumer groups and recommend appropriate action. Assist in conducting special studies and research about issues and programs of interest to the Division and contribute to reports and recommendations as assigned. Perform other duties as assigned. Appointment Method Permanent Minimum Qualifications Senior Attorney, SG‑25: One year as an Assistant Attorney 3 or admission to the NYS Bar and two years of subsequent professional legal experience. Assistant Attorney 3, SG‑22: One year as Assistant Attorney 2 or admission to the NYS Bar and one year of subsequent professional legal experience. Assistant Attorney 2, SG‑20: Admission to NYS Bar. Assistant Attorney 1, SG‑18: Law school graduation (or other eligibility to take the NYS Bar Examination). Appointment as an Assistant Attorney 1 is automatically advanced to Assistant Attorney 2 upon admission to the NYS Bar; failure to be admitted within two years results in termination of appointment. Additional Details The position is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS). Employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non‑competitive employment status converted to competitive status within one year of the permanent appointment. Candidates must be reachable on the Civil Service eligible list for 20‑620010 and meet eligibility requirements of the Governor’s Program to Hire Individuals and Veterans with Disabilities; information is available at Salary and Location Salary range: $96,336 - $121,413 (Grade‑25 Level). Additional $4,000 annual downstate adjustment for positions within the New York City metropolitan area, Suffolk, Nassau, Rockland, and Westchester counties. Appointment status: Permanent.
