Apheresis Tech II Req #: 0000250439 Category: Laboratory Status: Per Diem Shift: Evening Facility: RWJ New Brunswick Department: Lab - Blood Mgmt. - NB Pay Range: $26.81 - $33.51 per hour Location: 1 Robert Wood Johnson Pl, New Brunswick, NJ 08901 Job Summary and Essential Functions: Responsible for blood products collection and processing of blood products using automated and non-automated techniques for in-house and mobile drive operations in the state. Provide medical screening of blood donors. Observe donors for changes in condition and intervene appropriately. Assist in blood donor registration and recruitment activities in the community. Drive to various mobile blood drive sites in the state. Greet patients/donors in reception and/or donor room area in a pleasant and helpful manner. Determine and assist in completion of functions such as verification of appointment time and type, scheduling of necessary appointments, and assure completeness and accuracy of all patient paperwork. Register donors. Determine suitability of apheresis and blood donors, autologous donors and patients by screening for history and physical in accordance with established eligibility standards. Perform interview confidentially and accurately. Accurately measure and record results of medical history and physical. Review donor information in the BCIS and on downtime cards when necessary to insure complete and accurate records. Observe donors closely for any signs or behavior which will affect suitability or donation outcome. Collect blood and blood components from suitable donors and patients using automated and non-automated procedures. Adhere to all FDA, NJDOH, AABB, and Blood Services guidelines to insure patient/donor safety and product acceptability. Project a professional and pleasant manner to make the patient/donor relaxed and at ease. Monitor patients and donors carefully and be able to recognize and intervene in any unstable situation or donor reaction. Perform duties as assigned per departmental needs.
