Director, Operational Risk Governance (Global Security)

Job DescriptionWHAT IS THE OPPORTUNITY?The Operational Risk Governance team is undertaking multiple complex enterprise-wide initiatives as part of RBC's ongoing plan to improve risk management controls and governance framework across the organization. In this role you will be responsible for strategically planning and managing successful implementation of risk mitigation strategies and compliance oversight.WHAT WILL YOU DO?The role will coordinate, develop, lead, communicate and execute activities to ensure operational risk objectives are accomplished on time, including:Risk Assessment & Monitoring: Designing and implementing frameworks to identify, assess, and monitor operational risks across business unitsControl Framework Development: Establishing and maintaining robust internal controls aligned with regulatory requirements and RBC's risk appetiteGovernance Execution: Leading cross-functional teams to ensure adherence to operational risk policies and proceduresRegulatory Compliance: Ensuring alignment with banking regulations (OSFI, FINTRAC, etc.) and internal governance standardsIncident Management: Coordinating response protocols and remediation strategies for operational risk eventsStakeholder Communication: Communicating risk insights and governance updates to senior management and business leadersWHAT DO YOU NEED TO SUCCEED?Must haves:Must Deep Understanding of Regulatory & Compliance FrameworkComprehensive knowledge of banking regulations (OSFI, FINTRAC, Basel III, etc.) and ability to translate requirements into actionable governance policiesFamiliarity with RBC's risk appetite statement and how to operationalize it across the organizationStrong Analytical & Risk Assessment SkillsAbility to identify, quantify, and prioritize operational risks across complex business environmentsProficiency in risk modeling, scenario analysis, and data-driven decision-makingCross-Functional Leadership & Stakeholder ManagementCapability to influence and coordinate across business units, compliance, audit, and executive leadership without direct authorityExcellent communication skills to translate complex risk concepts for diverse audiences (board-level to operational teams)Control Design & Implementation ExpertiseExperience designing, implementing, and testing internal control frameworksAbility to balance risk mitigation with operational efficiency and business objectivesChange Management & AdaptabilityStrong project management skills to execute enterprise-wide initiatives on scheduleComfort operating in a dynamic regulatory environment and adjusting governance strategies as risks and regulations evolveResilience in managing competing priorities and stakeholder expectationsThese competencies are critical for effectively managing operational risk governance in a large, regulated financial institution like RBC.Nice-to-have:Advanced Technology & Data Analytics ProficiencyExperience with risk management platforms, dashboards, and business intelligence toolsFamiliarity with automation and AI-driven risk monitoring to enhance efficiency and real-time visibilityThis strengthens the ability to scale governance processes and provide actionable insights at enterprise levelIndustry-Specific Experience in Financial ServicesBackground in banking, insurance, or other regulated financial institutionsUnderstanding of RBC's specific business model, products, and inherent risk exposuresThis accelerates onboarding and builds credibility with internal stakeholdersCertification or Advanced Credentials in Risk ManagementProfessional certifications such as FRM (Financial Risk Manager), CRMP (Certified Risk Management Professional), CRISC or equivalentAdvanced education in finance, risk management, or governance disciplinesThese credentials demonstrate commitment to the field and provide structured frameworks for best practices in operational risk governanceWHAT'S IN IT FOR YOU?We thrive on the challenge to be our best, progressive thinking to keep growing, and working together to deliver trusted advice to help our clients thrive and communities prosper.
