About the Position

Job Title: Med Surg/Tele RN Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Med Surg/Tele RN Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: Required Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS Must-Have: PALS preferred Description: The unit consists of 24 beds with tele capabilities on all beds. There is a heavy focus on telemetry. The patient population includes adults and pediatrics, but travelers do not take pediatric patients. Pediatric patients are assigned to permanent staff. Strong neuro and cardiac skills are essential. Two years of experience in a similar setting is required. ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications are mandatory. PALS certification is preferred. The shift length is 12 hours with a guaranteed 36 hours per week. There may be up to three cancellations during the 13-week assignment. The electronic medical record system used is Sunrise Allscripts. Support staff on the unit includes telemetry technicians, a charge nurse, health unit coordinators, and patient care technicians. Nurse to patient ratios are 1:5 during the day and 1:6 at night. For pediatric patients, the ratio is 1:4 depending on the level of acuity. Nurse managers conduct rounds but do not provide patient care. Nurses may float to all medical-surgical units and take medical-surgical overflow patients in the ICU. A hospitalist is in-house 24/7. Respiratory therapists and pharmacy services are available 24/7. Scrub colors are flexible, but all black is not permitted. Scrubs are not provided.
